First blu-ray created with menus: Load Time is Slow

Postby tbg » Mon Apr 25, 2011 2:37 pm

Using Steve G's wonderful book as a guide, I created a Blu-ray with a main menu page and one sub-menu page. The main menu page has a title and a button that opens the sub-menu page. The sub-menu page contains two buttons which link to separate mpeg files. Each mpeg is only about 2.5 gb in size. It also contains a return to the menu button. As a side note, the mpeg files were rendered in Sony VMS using the Mainconcept Mpeg-2 type and 1920x1080 60i 25 mbps template, and Sony WAV template for sound.

Using my Samsung BDP-6900 player, the blu-ray authored with DVDA takes a long time for the main menu to appear - about a minute. Once the main menu appears, navigation is pretty quick, however.

This blu ray player has never taken this long to load anything. For example, if I took one the mpeg files and burned directly with no menus using Vegas Movie Studio, the load time is about 5 seconds.

Any thoughts?

Hi TBG,
My bluray player can take as long as 3 minutes to load a disc and display the menu.
These are with brand new commercial blu ray movies. I don't think 1 minute is unreasonable.
The Blu Ray movies I have created with Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro take a minute or two to load, but as you say once loaded everything is good.

My Panny BD player seems to take a (relatively) long time to load a disc ready play but I must confess that I haven't noticed any huge difference between commercial BDs, DVDs and home produced stuff.

Thanks to both for the very quick responses. Seems like what I'm seeing is pretty much normal.

My Sony Blu-Ray player BDP-S370 is really fast loading discs and menus. I've never had anything near a minute take to load. Even the drawer opens and closes fast. It'll chop your finger off if you aren't careful.

(At one time the player even played Blu-ray burned on DVD authored in DVDAS. Later I updated the firmware, but Sony dropped support for Blu-ray on DVD. )

My Panny is also very slow loading. V E RRRYYY SSSLLOOWWW on commercial discs. I hate BluRay for that.

Perhaps time to look at an upgrade to a Sony and put the Panny in my room as I only have an old DVD player there.
