GPU effects & transitions

Postby Di Hansen » Fri Sep 09, 2011 5:02 pm

I just started using PRE 9 on a new laptop computer. I am not seeing my GPU effects and transitions listed in the appropriate selection menus. I understand my graphics card must support GPU effects in order to utilize them with PRE 9. :-k

I have: a Dedicated 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT525 Graphics card

Questions: Any known conflicts with this particular Nvidia Graphics card? If so, can you recommend a specific graphics card that will work?
Can I change something with the program settings to enable the GPU effects/transitions with this particular Nvidia graphics card?

The rest of my computer specs are listed below.
System Type: DakTech Plaidbook SP15RV Notebook
Chassis: Chassis, SP15RV w/1GB graphics
Processor: Intel Core i5-2540M 2.6Ghz w/3M cache
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz (2-4GB)
Hard Drive: 500GB Seagate SATA 7200 rpm w/16MB cache
Video: Dedicated 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT525 Graphics
Optical Drive: Integrated Super Multi Drive combo
Sound: Integrated Two channel High Definition Audio
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
Network: Integrated Intel 10/100/1000 Ethernet
Wireless: Integrated Intel Wireless N Mini Card Adapter
Additional Features: 1.3MP Web Camera - 3-in-1 Card Reader - Bluetooth - two USB 2.0 ports- one USB 3.0 ports- one eSATA port

Thanks!

Hi Di,
I am pretty sure that Adobe removed the GPU Effects and Transitions beginning with version 7, sorry to say.

[-X I wish they wouldn't have done that! I have PRE 7 on my old laptop and I loved those GPU effects and transitions. I may have to use PRE 7 on my old and slow laptop with smaller projects.

Steve Grisetti mentioned them in his "The Muvipix.com Guide to Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements 9", so I assumed these effects would be in the program. Awesome book, by the way.

Thanks for your help and quick reply! You guys are awesome!

Thanks for your kind words about the book, Di! And sorry about the misinformation. Sometimes Adobe does sneak in a last minute change that takes us by surprise.

You could install PE 7 on your new computer too and use it when you need it. I have both versions installed on my Windows 7 64-bit notebook and there are no conflicts as far as I can tell.
A) i7-3930K 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo), 32GB DDR3-1600, SSD 256GB, 2x1TB+2x2TB Seagate Barracuda (72krpm), Geforce GTX 550 Ti (1GB), Win10 Pro 64-bit
B) Sony Vaio i7-3632QM,12gb DDR3-1333MHz, GeForce® GT 640M LE (2GB), 750GB (7200rpm), Win10 Pro64-bit

Thanks! So funny - I was thinking about this a few minutes while I was biking. I wondered if I'd be able to install both without conflicts. :)

I may try this. Thanks for your input. \:D/

I also have both PrEl 7 & 9 installed and bounce back and forth between the two, depending on my needs for a particular project. Nonetheless, PrEl 7 is still my workhorse. Every year it seems that for every feature they add they take one or two away. There have been a lot of good things lost between versions.

You won't have any issues with both installed, but be careful about opening any V7 projects in V9. The projects often don't make the transfer very well, plus you can't go back and reopen them in V7. If you ever decide to try that, be sure that you save a copy or two of the V7 project as backup.
Be yourself; everyone else is taken.
