importing PreE 4

Postby Matthew Max » Fri Aug 26, 2011 1:00 pm

Hey, everybody. Long time no talk. But I have been on the site in the meantime.

Does anyone know if Adobe has fixed Elements 9 to open Elements 4? How aggravating! So much lost work because I opened up a bunch of PreE 4 files and saved them in 9 without thinking about it a while back.
And does anyone know if Elements 9 will open in Pro 5.5 yet? Grrrrrr.
Well, I'm still happy to belong to Muvipix.com.

I have opened Elements 10 project files in Premiere Pro CS4, do not have CS5.5 to test with. My guess is that Elements 9 project files should work. The only problem with opening a Elements Project in Pro is that not everything can be translated, certain effects and transitions do not exist so the program has to guess. If there isn't anything too out of the ordinary it should all open up fine.

I bought Pro 5.5 a few months ago and have not been able to open Elements 9 with it.

Opening an older version project in a newer version of the program nearly always leads to buggy behavior, Max. Always has, since version 2. Sorry.

That's the nature of a program that has undergone so many upgrades and changes each generation.

As I said, it can depend on what you have used in your project when it comes to effects and such.
There are enough differences that it can cause problems. My projects were very basic, just footage, cross dissolves and a very little shadow/Highlight correction.

What do you mean by unable to open, do you get an error?
I know that CS5.5 has some major changes from CS4.

Just remember in the future to always make a copy to open in another version and save the original just in case ;) I will make 2 or 3 copies, one to open in a newer version and one to open in Pro but always save the original so I can still open it in the original version it was create with.
