Unable to add .flv and Matroska video files

Postby editmonster » Fri Jun 03, 2011 10:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to Premier Elements and this website. I attempted to add .flv (flash video) and Matroska files to my project but an error came up and said that they are not supported or I don't have the codec for the files. Is there a work-around so that I can add these files?

I am using Steve Griselli's Basic Training Tutorial (which I find extremely useful in cutting out all the features that I don't need).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A warm welcome to Muvipix editmonster. :wcm:

Unfortunately Premiere Elements does not supported the input of .flv or .mkv files. It will export to .flv but will not import them.

What is the source of these files? Can you get them in another format? If not your best bet will be to convert them to an acceptable format.

In order to import FLV into Premiere Elements, you need to install some 3rd party software and codecs and splitter. See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3190

Hi RJ,

I read your thread that you had me link to. The files play perfectly on the PC. I use a program entitled "Optical-Adobe Media Player for .flv files" in order to play the .flv files. I use Windows Media Player to play the Matroska files.

I have ffdshow v.1.1.3771 [3-7-11] and Haali Media Splittter installed in my PC.

You said in your older post to change the .flv file to .avi. How do I go about doing that? What is the best program for doing this?

Can I also change the Matroska file to .avi?

Thank you any help in this matter.

You don't convert the FLV into an AVI. What you do is rename the file extension in Windows Explorer from ".flv" to ".avi". You could also just append ".avi" onto end of the file name, such as MyMovie.flv.avi

I haven't tried doing the same with Matroska.

You still need that special FLVSplitter for the FLV files. It's not included with FFDShow.
