Location for Smartsound music files on Win'7 PC?

Postby Ron Hunter » Sun May 15, 2011 2:54 pm

I have copied the Smartsound music files from my Windows Vista PC and want to paste them into the correct location on my Win'7 PC. Would someone kindly tell me where that folder is located? I can't find it.

You're talking about the Smartsound program and its files, right? Not the music files, since they would be created as needed and stored wherever you indicate.

In any event, the ImporterQuicktracks.prm file should be located in PROGRAM FILES/ADOBE/PREMIERE ELEMENTS 9/PLUG-INS/EN-US.

There is also a folder for Smartsound Software that should be located in your PROGRAM FILES.

Steve, I purchased some SS music tracks and they are stored on my old PC. I want to transfer them to my new PC.

I found the sound files on the old PC and copied them to a flash drive. I now want to "paste" them on my new PC so that I can continue to use them.

I have not been able to find a "Browse" feature within the SS "choose music" graphical user interface, so I presume I must place the files into the default SS music location. I cannot find that location.

Where is the SS music folder that is accessed when I am in PRE9 and I select SmartSound?

Those files, I believe, in XP are located in DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS/ALL USERS/SMARTSOUND SOFTWARE in one of the sub-folders.

I have to wait for my Windows 7 machine to become available to find the similar folder on it.

EDIT:
On Windows 7, the files are under C:\USERS\ALL USERS\SMARTSOUND SOFTWARE. (You may need to set your Folder View to display hidden folders to see it.)

Steve,

You are correct. There are basically three types of SmartSound files:

The program files in the Program Files folder, and usually the QuickTracks plug-in, in the host application's folder structure.

The "handler" files, which are in the Documents & Settings folder.

The actual SmartSound Library files, which can be located almost anywhere the user wants.

In my case, and on my laptop, I have QuickTracks plug-in for both PrE and PrPro,and there are two instances of the plug-in, one for each program. I have my "handler" files in Documents & Settings, but all of my Library files (the largest of the file types) on a FW-800 external, so SmartSound is only available to me, when that external is plugged in.

I also have Sonicfire Pro 5 Scoring Edition, and it is pointed to the Documents & Settings folder, and then to the external for the Library files.

Hope that this helps,

Hunt

Within PRE9, I selected Smartsound from the audio tool pulldown box. I selected "Tools>Options" from the graphical user interface, then the "Folders" tab. That told me the folder location was C:\PROGRAMDATA\SMARTSOUND SOFTWARE INC\SOUND FILES. Of course, I couldn't find that folder within Windows Explorer, but I typed it into the address bar and I found it. I pasted the sound files and rebuilt the SS library. Now I'm in business!
