Can't Download/Install the FREE Special Effecta

Postby videocreater » Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:45 am

what version of quicktime is needed for these Files ? i am getting this message when i try to open the files up. The movie “Building_slowmo.avi” can’t be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.

An AVI is a Windows media file. It's not a Quicktime file -- which is why you can't play it in Quicktime Player.

There are Mac players that can play these types of files. Flip4Mac is one of the most popular.

The challenge is that these particular files use a non-DV codec, which may be complicating the issue with trying to play them on a Mac.

I'll see if I can convert this particular one to a DV-AVI and then post a link so that you can download it.

Ron and I were able to get this up pretty quickly, Don.

You can download the DV-AVI of that clip here. Of course, you'll still need to unzip it before you use it -- but, once you do, it should load right into Premiere Elements, even on a Mac.

You can not use AVIs in iMovie. Sorry.

And I know nothing about a WMV file. You should have downloaded a zipped DV-AVI.

Most of the files are zipped, you need to extract the files before you can use them.

You should simply be able to double click on it and the zip file should open. You can then drag the uncompressed file to your desktop or to a folder.

Is this on a MAC?
Is the unzipping process the same on a MAC as on a PC?

Sort of. Macs use a program called StuffIt to compress and decompress their files.

But it can also unzip Zip file. You just double-click on it and StuffIt should go to work. (If, for some reason, your Mac doesn't have this program, it's available for download online.)

Stuffit Expander is free. And, as I've said, it's often included with the Mac OSX software, so you may well already have it.

Have you checked?
