Still having problems with Component Activation.

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 9.

Still having problems with Component Activation.

Postby Gerlinde » Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:38 am

I am trying to open a video clip from the Movie Theme folder via the Get Media Option in a project. The Clip in question can be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 9\Movie Themes\Style\Prime Time>> ANIM_camera-lens_hd.m2v.

When I click to open the file, I get the new component activation window (mpeg2). After going to the Adobe website, generating the unlock code and pasting it into the the activation window, it startys activating the component. Midway through it stops, a Error window pops up, informing me the file format is not supported or the codec is not installed.

Doing the same thing in V7 works without a problem, so the codec must be installed. Any ideas what might be going on here????

That's strange, Gerlinde! In version 9, these activations should all be automatic. You shouldn't have to paste in the activation code, as you did in version 7.

Have you checked to ensure your Adobe licensing is still valid? Here's a link to the licensing repair tool.

Hi Steve, I think you might be correct. Something went wrong with the licensing procedure. I uninstalled/re-installed the program for the 3rd time yesterday night. Now it seems to be running OK ( I hope  ). It stopped bugging me to get the activation code, it just downloads and installs what ever it needs now.
I never had so many problems with a new version of PE ](*,) . I keep my fingers crossed, that all is well now :-D

Thanks for responding.

I am back to the beginning :pull: Now it is bugging me to activate the Mpeg4 sp codec again. I had already successfully created a project with Mpeg4 clips before I uninstalled the program. When I try now to reopen that project it wants to activate the component again by generating a code, which it then won't accept.
I have run the licensing repair tool twice, but that did not fix it. I don't know what to do now, it's getting really frustrating. I am ready to uninstall the program for good.

Sorry. I wish I had more to suggest.

It may be a problem with your 64-bit operating system. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you.

I hate to say it but maybe time to call Adobe Tech Support...

Okay, I think I'm back in business :-D

Steve, I don't think it had anything to do with Windows 64-bit. And Chuck I was close to call Tech Support.

Here is what I did: uninstalled the program again, downloaded the trial version from Adobe, installed, entering Serial number from my retail version. I imported any file type I could find without having to activate any component. Everything goes now automatic.

So hopefully nothing new is popping up. ( there are no smilies with crossed fingers :- )

Thanks for trying to help. :-D

Thanks Steve :-D

I found another downside to Version 9. When I capture from my Canon HV30 in HD the preview window turns black as soon as I hit >Capture<. I know it is for most people like that and everybody is using HDV-split for that reason. But for some reason it is working for me in Version 7, I always have a preview during HD capture. It's not a big deal, but I would like to know, what is different between the 2 programs. :-k

Glad you got things worked out Gerlinde.

Even if the preview window worked during capture for me I would still use HDVSplit because I like to have the clips split by timecode and Premiere Elements wont' do that.

I understand Chuck, but this is a preference of your individual work flow. I capture my footage by event and date. My clips a usually rather short anyway. I like to create sub-clips by content. I never capture my footage "blind". I sometimes connect my external monitor to my camera via HDMI cable and watch my footage on a bigger screen during capture. That way I have a better feeling for what to edit out.

I guess it all depends on what you are working on :-D

If you haven't tried HDVSplit it is worth checking out. I understand how some things work for some people but not everyone, it is a matter of what you like and what works best for you :)
