Specific to Premiere Elements Version 9.
by Chuck Engels » Fri Dec 10, 2010 12:30 am
Bob was wondering if anyone is keeping track of the features that seem to have disappeared from Premiere Elements version 9. If we can put together a list I will forward it on to Adobe and ask them why the features have been removed. We have had answers to a few things but let's see what the complete list looks like.
1. Export video with Alpha Channel
2. Export Filmstrip File
Anyone please continue ...
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory. 2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

You can export video with the alpha channel. I already posted how in a thread.
2. No MPEG-1 export.
3. Can no longer enter data in what were editable fields in the project columns. Probably phasing out feature.

You probably need to qualify export with alpha channel. As RJ pointed out, you can export a Microsoft AVI with alpha channel using max bit depth and specifying none for the codec. But it sure seems Adobe is trying to make it harder. You used to be able to export other format files with alpha channel. For example, quicktime using the animation codec with millions+ colors -- but, that results in an invalid argument if you try it now. Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 can still export quicktime files with alpha channel using animation codec and Millions+.
I just did a search on the PRE9 forum for "removed" and saw:
color picker eyedropper for titles
GPU effects and transitions
Quick Share
Icon View option has been removed from the Project panel
Framecount Timecode
Chroma Key missing from the Mac version
Some new blue effects missing
Any others?

Can't specify "Favorites" transitions.

Regarding alpha channel for Quicktime Animation, select "32-bit" for the Depth property in advanced settings.

The Image Control Panel is no longer an item in the Properties panel - you now have to access this from 'Video Effects'.
The Preference categories no longer feature the option to change the user interface or label colours & defaults.
Although mention has been made of the inability to edit or input data in the 'edit columns' feature this is still described as available in the recently updated PDF version of Premiere Elements 9 Help.

I asked Adobe about the missing GPU Effects, this is their response. Hi Chuck, > We have removed the GPU effects and transitions. There were crashes seen late in the cycle on two cards out of the many that we tried, and we did not want that to reach a subset of users post release. The crashes were easily reproducible on those machines and it was really difficult to make changes to those plugins and it would have taken an effort that we still do not think was necessary. > > Hope I answered your immediate question. And we are not yet sure if we will see them in the next release as well. >
Very honest I must say. Hopefully they will come back in future releases but for now we know why they are not in version 9.

I'm curious Chuck... Are these effects in the most recent Pro versions of the program?

I am 2 versions behind, currently on CS3. The GPU Effects and Transitions are available in CS3, not sure about the current version CS5.
