Downloaded free stock footage, can't use it!

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 9.

Downloaded free stock footage, can't use it!

Postby Clemdogsan » Fri Jan 27, 2012 1:22 am

I downloaded some stock footage from the free tab at the left side of the Muvipix website, but can't seem to get it to work in my PRE version 9. I try to import it into a project, I get the response "unsupported file type or correct codecs not loaded". Specifically, it is a clip of a floatplane flying at low level through a river valley.

Do what? Isn't the stock footage designed to be used in PRE 9 and other versions of PRE? I think the files are .AVI clips.

BTW, it won't play in my Windows Media Player either. (Windows 7)

Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Hi Clem and welcome to Muvipix. :wcm:

The file that you downloaded compressed into a .zip format file to minimise the file size. You have to extract the contents to use the clip.

In Windows Explorer navigate to the .zip file location then right click on the .zip file icon. Select the Extract All option from the drop down menu. That will open a window where you can specify the output file location to be used to save the .zip file contents. Extract he file(s) to your chosen location and you will then have a usable .avi file.

You may also want to install some missing codecs required to play the files. Besides downloading and installing the latest Quicktime (which alleviates many problems with PE in general), download the K-Lite Codec pack - http://www.free-codecs.com/k_lite_codec ... wnload.htm

Almost guaranteed that that will fix the problem.

Can you tell me the exact name of the file you downloaded, Clem?

Some of our older footage used a proprietary codec. I've converted most to DV-AVIs -- but I may have missed one or two.

Steve, its a zip file called mi-Stock Video Footage (aerials, train). The info tab lists it as being uploaded Nov 2008.

BTW, I was able to extract the files from the zip folder without issue when I first downloaded the file, it is the individual extracted files that I'm having trouble with.

As a nube, I very much appreciate everyone's assistance!

Thanks, Clem. I'll work on converting them over the weekend.

We'll let you know when the DV-AVI versions are available. Thanks for your patience.

Ron, do you recommend that I download the Full, Standard, or Basic versions of that K-Lite Codec pack thingy?

Thanks in advance,

Clem

I believe I downloaded the Standard version a couple of years ago and never had any problems with video after that.

If the Standard doesn't solve the problem, you can always get the Full version. The entire pack doesn't leave a very large footprint at all.

Meantime, I've converted the files to more standard DV-AVIs.

Ron should have the new download up very soon.

Ron & Steve,

Thanks for the help. The Codec download seemed to correct the issue nicely!
