Elements 4 to 9

I had Elements 4 now I have 9. I cannot callup videos previously edited in prel 4. It shows them as media offline. When I follow the help for media offline it says it had 2 channels and now I have 6 channels.

Media offline means that it can't find the video and/or photos that you used to create the project, so you need to tell it where those files are. When you first open the project it will ask you where the files are and you need to navigate to the file location. If they're all in the same folder all it needs is to find the first one and then it will automatically take care of the rest.

It's generally an accepted practice to not open previous version files in newer versions of the program. Although it can work, there are often problems in doing so. One of the biggest problems is that once a file is opened in a newer version it can't be reopened in the original version. That's why you always want to make a copy of your original project file before you open it in a newer version.

You can not open a version 4 project in version 10, Sandra. At least not with lots of buggy behavior.

In fact, we frequently warn on this forum and in our books against opening any older version project with a newer version of the program. Premiere Elements goes through such extensive reworking each generation that it almost always corrupts the file in some way.

So I hope you're able to finish the project in version 4. And that you didn't corrupt the version 4 project by trying to open it in version 9.
