...is with regard to cropping. Most of my prints consist of 6 x 9-inch images (254 ppi) on 8.5 x 11-inch paper. With CS5, I can set the crop tool to 9-in wide by 6-in tall and then lay it down on my image in accordance with the "rule of thirds" for a perfect crop. I've tried working around in PSE9 using the grid lines set to a "rule of thirds," but the grid lines cannot be dragged over the image they way they can in CS5. Fortunately, Adobe makes it easy to move back and forth between the PSE9 Organizer and PS CS5. P.S. Very nice new smiley, Ron.

You can set Guides in Photoshop Elements 9, just as you can in Photoshop, George. Is that what you're talking about?
You can also pre-set your Crop tool to exactly 9x6 and then position it over your photo to get an exact size and crop.

Steve, with CS5 one also has the choice to, as one is dragging out the crop, activate a Crop Guide Overlay, with the following three choices: a) None b) Rule of Thirds c) Grid. If one chooses, say, b, then the Rule of Thirds Overlay can be dragged over the image to the precise point in the image that one wishes to be at (below) the intersecting lines. In PSE9, one can create grid lines that look similar, but they can't be dragged over the image. True, the image can be dragged beneath the grid lines, but upon accepting the crop, the result for me would be different from what I anticipated. If you have a solution, I'd like to know, as I would prefer not to need to periodically leave the PSE9 Editor and open CS5 to accomplish certain tasks.

That's a nice feature, George! Hopefully it will filter its way down to the Elements program at some point. Other great features have!

Very true. In fact, everything I need to do I can do with the PRE/PSE9 bundle, with the exception of this precise cropping, and that is why I made the post. (In additon, there are a few Styles available in CS5 that are not avalable in PSE9.) BTW, I should have placed this post in the PS rather than the PSE forum. Can you move it for me?

Not only that, but in Photoshop, unlike Photoshop Elements, you can easily create your own styles, add them to the styles panel, or make adjustments to existing styles. You aren't limited to the existing styles.

Now you've really got my attention. I like the idea of each and every image having its own unique style, so I will explore this capability further for sure. Thank you for the tip.

I recently watched a tut on the crop tool PS CS5 and very impressed on the options. Instead of cropping the photo, you can hide the pixels like a mask. This works on a layer and not a background layer. The crop tool can also be used to create a matte for the photo.

Steve, I wrote that before I knew about Smart Objects. Now that I've learned about those from Bob, it appears my work flow will most often be to use the PSE9 Organizer to select images to edit with PS CS5 as Smart Objects. The edited images will then be re-rasterized and used to create an Album in the PSE9 Organizer. That Album will be used to create a slide show with PSE9's Slide Show Editor. This initial edit will then be "sent" to PRE9 for a final round of editing prior to outputting to PC. The PC file will then be used to create either an SD or a Blu-ray DVD. If the client does not care about DVD menus, then I'm going to explore outputting the slide show file from PC to a flash drive. (I haven't tried this yet, so I'm not certain how well a HD slide show will play on a flash drive.)
