Photoshop - Resize & Constrain Proportions

Postby momoffduty » Tue Oct 25, 2011 9:12 am

Is there a way to batch resize photos AND constrain proportions? The Image Processor requires width & height values plugged in & there isn't a constrain proportions option like there is in Photoshop Elements. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the number of pixels that you enter into the width and height reflect the same aspect ratio as the original, wouldn't that accomplish your goal?

For example, if your original is 2000x1500 and you enter 1000x750 as the new values, wouldn't that be adequate?

No. I may have 50 photos in a folder that are both landscape & portrait. In PrEl I batch resize and only plug in the width & check box constrain proportions. Sometimes the landscape photos are odd sizes depending on the different cameras.

I've been using PrEl to resize & would like to find a way to stay in PS. If I add adjustment layers to the photos in PS I have to merge before resizing in PrEl because some adjustment layers will not translate and get thrown out by PrEl.

The PS Image Processor constrains proportions when resizing. Width and height do not specify the resized dimensions of the photos, they specify the maximum those values can be. Photos will be resized to fit within the rectangle defined by the specified width and height without changing the photo's original aspect ratio.

Ahhh! Thanks Bob. I was thinking that the image would be changed to those exact dimensions.
