Splash Pro - The Utlimate HD Video Player

Postby RJ Johnston » Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:06 am

If you have trouble playing back hi-def video from your camcorder in a video player on your computer, then you might be interested in this video player from Mirillis.

http://mirillis.com/en/products/splash.html

I was perusing the VideoHelp website looking for nothing in particular. Then I saw a listing for Splash Lite claiming to be the Ultimate Free HD Video Player, so I downloaded it to try it out with some HD video clips I had downloaded from various web sites. It turns out to be the best video player for playing HD video that I have tried to date.

After turning on the "accelerated video" option in Splash, I had no trouble playing back HD video with Splash Lite (free) on my Dell Dimension 3000, Pentium 4, 3GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT, 1GB RAM. I needed the Pro version to play back the same clips on a Dell Dimension 2400, Celeron 2.4 GHz, 504 MB RAM, NVidia GeForce 8400 GS with 500 MB RAM. I was able to flawlessly play back HD 1920x1080 and 1440x1080 AVC and MPEG2.

The player does not play back AVI files. It plays back standard-def AVC files. Check out the comparison charts comparing the Lite and Pro versions as well as the products not yet released. Also check out the system requirements, especially the GPU cards.

Good find Robert. I have been using Cyberlink PowerDVD but it is a fairly "heavy" application... slow to respond, but it does play my AVCHD discs. I will keep an eye on the Splash BD player.

Up until now I have been viewing my HD with WMP 11.
I like this Splash Pro. :-D
Very good quality.
Thanks Robert.

Edit: I meant Splash Lite not Splash Pro.
Thanks
Richard

The quality on the lite version is excellent as well, I am very impressed so far.
It plays my m2t files just fine as well as a few other formats.
Nice find RJ, thanks for sharing this :)
