How do you output to MPEG-4 codec?

Postby GerryB » Mon Nov 26, 2012 1:11 pm

Good evening all,
I want to output from PrEl9 & PrEl11 to .mp4 to stream from a web site.
I can code the file in CS5 (Media Encoder) to .mp4 then upload and the file streams. No problem.
If I code the file in either PrEl9 or PrEl11 to .mp4 the file downloads and then plays. Not a problem with a 3min clip but with a 40min file it is a disaster!
If I Share >> Computer >> MPEG the output (PrEl9 & 11) is .m2t - not what I want.
If I Share >> Mobile Phoones >>iPhone & iPods the output is .mp4 - but it does not stream.

Any help, suggestions, pointers to where the stream/download tick box is buried in the Presets will be most appreciated.
Thanks,
GerryB

Hi Gerry,
What Media Encoder Preset are you using that has the "faststart" function that allows files to start playing immediately? Here is an interesting article and solution http://www.risevision.com/blog/user-tip ... mediately/

There is also most likely a preset in Premiere Elements that will work for you, will post as soon as I find one you can try.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

I think that you will find any of the MP4/H.264 presets under

Share > Computer > AVCHD

Will work just fine :)

I did a test with a standard DV file and used the AVCHD MP4 NTSC DV Widescreen preset, the video plays immediately while downloading.

I second Chuck's suggestion. There are dozens of types of MP4s, each optimized for a particular use.

For streaming video, I'd recommend you use Publish & Share/Computer/AVCHD using a preset for YouTube or Vimeo.

Hi Chuck,

I will have a go with the AVCHD settings shortly and I will also let you know what I have done in CS5.

Thanks,

Gerry

Chuck, Steve,

Many thanks, you are spot on!!

PrEl11
Go to Publish & Share >> AVCHD >> MP4 - PAL DV Widescreen
Click on advanced
w = 768
h = 432
bitrate = 0.7
max bit rate = 1.0

Using those setting I uploaded and it played within 7s to 10s (3min duration test file) which is just the job!

PrEl9
No AVCHD option.
I didn't thik it was that old and out of spec!!

Does PrEl10 have the AVCHD option?

Premier Pro CS5
From the timeline
File >> Export >> Media (Ctrl+M)
format - H.264
Preset - PAL DV Widescreen
Modified as follows
TV system - PAL
w - 768
h - 432 (note the non-square pixel is not working here)
f/s - 25
level 3
bitrate - 0.7
max bitrate - 1.0

Saved and uploaded and streams.

Again, many thanks,

GerryB
