FLV convert

Postby Dave McElderry » Mon Jun 18, 2012 1:18 pm

I generally have very little need to work with FLVs, but I have one that I need to get converted to WMV to use in a PowerPoint for this coming Sunday. My present converters don't work with FLVs. Can anyone suggest a converter (free is good) which would get an FLV file into a format that I can then wrangle to WMV?

Hi Dave,
VLC Player is supposed to be able to convert FLV to WMV, check this out
http://www.lytebyte.com/2007/04/25/how- ... er-format/

I would also try Super, which is often recommended here for file conversion.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Thanks Chuck. I've now tried this file in 3 different FLV-capable players and it won't play, so first I have to see if I can get it in a legitimate form.

Yes, VLC can do the conversion. That web page is for the older versions. The current VLC versions use a slightly different process. Here's a page I found that describes the current process. http://www.ghacks.net/2011/08/02/how-to-convert-videos-with-vlc/.

Have a cup of coffee while you're waiting for the conversion to complete. It's not the speediest racer on the track.

Thanks Bob. First I've got to get a good FLV. If that doesn't happen I won't need to worry about step 2. Appreciate it.

The youtube downloader from CNET (free) converts FLV files very nicely.

Wow! Thanks for this Sidd! When I got to the CNET site I actually ended up choosing one called Free YouTube Downloader, which worked like a charm. It even converted to WMV on the fly as it downloaded (optional). Problem solved.

No problem. There were several to choose from and I just went with the one that had the highest rating. :TU:
