DEP problem

Postby thhult » Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:59 am

I have committed myself to write a review of PE8. So far a lot of problems if you compare with previous versions.
Very often during editing work the program shut down with a Vista declaration that the cause is Data Execution Prevention (DEP).
PE 8 is the first and only program this has happend. I use Vista 64 bit.

Any ideas from other PE8 users why this happend ?

Ensure that Vista has got all of the latest updates, including the optional ones, by going to Windows Update. And make sure you've got the latest Quicktime.

After that, try launching the program by holding down the Shift key. (Just once. You shouldn't have to do it every time.) You can also try holding down left side Ctrl+Shift+Alt keys as you launch the program to clear other little corruptions that may have crept in.

BTW, in fairness, I hope you're testing it with a standard video source -- miniDV or HDV tape-based. At least then you'll see it performing at its best.

It's encouraging to know that these fixes are sometimes working, Thomas!

(There also seems to be some chatter about a bug in the latest nVidia drivers that's causing problems. It may be behind a lot of the problems people are suddenly having -- especially with version 8!)

Steve,
For your information. As you wrote about problem with NVIDIA-card. I have a Geforce 9500 GS card. In Windows Update there was one not necessary update about this card as I installed. I visit nvidia.com and find a newer driver as I download and installed. The problem with DEP in PE recurrence. I reinstalled the fix in Windows Update again and the problem disappeared. The driver now is an older version.
This was the reason.

Thanks for the report, Thomas!

I'm also finding that, sometimes, the drivers that appear as non-critical updates in Windows Update work just fine for me.
