That's a nice overview of some of the major features, John. Not quite as cool as ours, but good enough.

I just wonder how they ran that program for nearly 10 minutes without it crashing!

Steve, it seems obvious that Adobe's goal is to automate as much as possible the process of creating a movie. Clearly, Adobe is attempting to broaden the appeal of the program to include those who have neither the time nor the inclination to learn how to think for themselves. Does it seem likely that's the reason 8 appears to be less stable than 7?

Interesting thought, George -- but the goal of adding more "instant" features has been there since version 4. In fact, I think version 8 has a nice mix of advanced features (like Motion Tracking and Background Rendering) and no-brainer stuff, like InstantMovie and Smart Trimming.

I'm not sure what's responsible for the bloating in version 8 though. But, even with Background Rendering and the Auto Analyzer turned it, it feels bulkier and more unstable than 7, IMHO. Maybe it was just built for a more advanced operating system and more powerful hardware than I've got. (My system is 5 years old, I guess.) But it seems like even people with brand new computers are having problems with it.

Maybe everything will change when Windows 7 is released.

I guess PRE8 is not too stable when you use all those auto features?

Yes, I hope that Pre8 is stable on Windows 7. On my system (Vista Home Premium Sp2) it's useless. I stay with Pre7 so far. I think I will install a new disk for Windows 7. Install from scratch and only use Pre8 on it. May be it's stable. If not I will continue to use Pre7. (And switch to MAC and Final Cut Express when I by a new computer)
