PRE8 question

Postby Chris B » Thu Sep 24, 2009 2:18 pm

OK - so I'm looking to get a new PC soon with windows 7 64bit and loads of memory. So - PE4 isn't going to cut it so I'll probably move up to 8. Do you know is PE8 shares any of the stuff from CS4 where lots of RAM and a 64bit OS really helps the rendering process? Since it's sold for win7 can I assume that there are no 64bit type compatibility issues?

Thanks chaps.

Hi Chris,
Version 8 is still a 32bit application, so the 64bit OS won't help a lot.
There are the same driver issues when trying to run it on a 64bit OS, but it has run without problems for people already both on Vista 64 and Windows 7 64bit..

I would say that there probably won't be a difference between version 7 and 8 as far as running on a 64bit OS goes.
Some people have no problems at all, others have nightmares, depends on the system it is installed on.
I think the issues are usually hardware and driver related, not problems with XP, Vista or Windows 7 64bit OS in general.

Thanks Chuck,

I was thinking that lots of memory (8GB) - and therefore lots of disk cache would help the HDV flow considerably in any case. My copy of PE4 seems to thrash the disk a lot running with 3GB.

I'm not sure that there will be extra RAM available to the application, there is to Windows but don't know if that is still true when running a 32bit app.
Maybe Bob, Bobby, or one of the more technically advanced members can comment on that 8-[
