PSE8 & PE8 bundle questions

Postby JP's » Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:29 am

I have PSE6 PE4 bundle installed and would like to upgrade to PSE8 PE8 bundle.

How would I move the catalog from PSE6 to PSE8?

Can I move a file folder from PE4 to PE8 (video footage only, no effects, transitions, etc.)?

Do I need to remove either PSE6 or PE4?

When you install version 8, it should automatically find and update your catalog.

Otherwise, Barb O has a manual method for migrating your catalog to the new version. Let's see if she checks in with her solution.

Agreed, when you install PSE 8 and then start the Organizer of PSE 8, it will often give you a pop-up asking if you want to convert the catalog of a previous version. However, that pop-up does not happen on every system or for every catalog. If you don't see the pop-up then go to File menu Catalog command and you will see a button for Convert. Click that convert button to start the catalog conversion process manually. Note that IF you have more than one catalog, each one converts separately.

BEFORE you start PSE 8,
it can often help if on your PSE 6 Catalog(s) you do
-- Catalog > Repair
-- File > Reconnect > All Missing Files
-- Catalog > Repair (again)
The logic here is that a "cleaned up" prior version catalog is less likely to have problems during the upgrade process.
