They have been very consistent in releasing a new version every year around October.
That has been the case for 5 or 6 years now.

No. Version 7 is still a great buy.

But if you are interested in upgrading and Adobe announces a new version within about 30 days of your purchase, they've usually offered a cheaper upgrade.

In the past, Adobe has released new versions of Elements in the fall. But there's been no formal announcement yet. We'll keep our eyes out for these backdoor announcements in the meantime!

Isn't it funny that in that same ad they show Photoshop Elements/Premeire Elements 7 selling for $149. Go figure. :-8

I still use version 2 but my imminent migration to Windows 7 64 bit will finally kill that off. :(

When the product is released, you may want to call customer service. I had a similar thing happen when we went from version 4 to version 7. I think it was within 60 days. They sent the new version for a shipping charge of $9.00.

I'm assuming with version 8 they will be adding some needed features regarding avchd, specifically the ability to burn avchd to dvd and perhaps smart rendering?

Dont hold your breath!!!... Smart rendering for standard MPEG and improvements in DVD authoring have been requested for years but have never been implemented.

Adobe has always been very secretive about the features in the subsequest releases. THere are beta testers that know this, but they are all sworn to secrecy.

There is no point to guessing what the features are going to be. You will find out soon enough.

There have been some improvement to AVCHD editing but I am not familiar with them. Maybe someone that has some experience with AVCHD and version 8 can now comment :)
