PE Versions vs. their .prel

Postby wschumac » Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:26 am

I currently have PE 8 and PE 9 and find version 8 to work most of the time, but I find now and then it crashes for various reasons especially when rendering. I installed PE 9 and tried to pull in a PE 8 .prel file and it would not load when I had version 9 up and running.
Is there anyway to use PE9 with earlier versions of a .prel file? :-

One last question, in your opinion, which version is best?

Thank you

Generally speaking, it is best to complete a project in the version that you started it with. One can open (say) a PrEl v8 project in PrEl v9 but then it cannot later be re-opened with v8.

I use PPro not PrEl but no doubt someone who is a PrEl user will be along soon and can offer info about opening projects in newer versions of the program. From comments posted on this forum the view seems to be that PrEl v8 was one to avoid.

Meantime, if you haven't yet, go to either of the programs' Help menu and Check for Updates. Adobe released patches for both 8 and 9, and you should make sure you have them both.

There are many possible reasons for your program to crash, though, from system issues to the type of video you're using as your project source.

But if you'll run Advanced System Care's (my favorite free program) Deep Care tune-up, you can at least make sure your computer is in tip top condition and is as stable as possible.

In my opinion version 9 would be the better between the two, but I really like version 10 the best :)

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Thank you all, I found v8 to be pretty good in the beginning and have never tried 9, but am gratified to know 10 is the best, I appreciate all of the help. Thanks again.
