Hi. I have two stupid questions, so I'll get them both out of the way in one post:

1) Does one have to be a member of Muvipix to enter the contest?

2) What does "legally licensed music" mean? This is strictly hobby with me - I don't sell anything, so I don't worry about using whatever music I want. Are contests different? For example, can I not use "Happy Together" by the Turtles?

Hi Jim,
1. You have to be a registered forum member, you do not have to be a subscriber.
You have posted your questions here in the forum so you already quality :)

2. To use music in a production you need to have the proper license.
We aren't holding anyone to that but if the music police come around as ask us to remove a contest entry because of the music we will have to do that.
If an entry is removed for this reason it will be disqualified. That being said, I don't think you really have to worry much, use whatever music you want.
Just remember, you do so at your own risk ;)

Be sure to choose your category wisely, if it can fit into more than one category select the one that has the closest fit.

Another question? :)

If I have 2 music videos and one of them was created with Elements and the other was with Pro 1.5.
Am I allowed to enter 1 of them in the (Mini Movie/Music Video) category and the other in the (Premiere Elements Only - Open Category)?

Or is it just choose a categry and enter as many videos that fit that category :)

Cheers,
Lee

Hi Lee,
You can enter as many videos, in as many categories as you like.
The only rule is you cannot enter the same video in two different categories.

Hi. I need help again (but don't worry, I'm used to it). The contest instructions don't seem to cater to Muvipix newbies like me. I was hoping for a big red "Enter 2008 Contest" button.

I think I figured out that I have to click on Gallery, then upload, then select "2008 Contest" after downloading. Yes? OK, I did that, and entered the title and information, but I don't remember picking a category. Is there any way to check if I did?

Basically, is there any way to check or confirm if I'm actually entered at this point?

Also, I created my 100x100 thumbnail, but I don't remember being asked for it. How do I submit that?

Also, will I be notified if I'm disqualified (before the entry deadline)? I nudged one of the rules, based on Chuck's answer "You can do anything you like and use whatever music you want to use (at your own risk)". But it would be nice to know if I've been bounced so I could try to fix and resubmit it.

Hi Jim,

Your video uploaded fine (I'm sure you received a page letting you know that it did upload fine and is awaiting approval) and you are entered. And no, you can't edit your entry description at this point.

You can upload your thumbnail the exact same way. Then, you can let us know what category you'd like for your entry - just provide it with your thumbnail description, I can do the rest.

I wouldn't worry too much about the music thing. We just have to mention it in case the music police come around. If we didn't have the awesome prizes, then it wouldn't even be an issue. Since we are not a non-profit website, it's possible (albeit extremely remote) that we could be asked to C & D (cease and desist).

Good luck!
Regards,
-Ron

Hello,

I am yet another newbie and I have a question:

If you can reduce Lawrence of Arabia to 2 minutes and make it interesting, more power to you !

Does it mean I'm allowed to take clips from random Hollywood movies to make a trailer for a fictitious movie for example?
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I have a feelin that I am).

Thanks in advance,
Mad

Hi Mad,
I would not recommend using a bunch of copyrighted material, we will probably be asked to remove it and then the video would have to be disqualified.
Chances of winning a prize by using other peoples material isn't very likely either. You can enter whatever you want, it is an EDITING contest first and foremost :)
The main thing is to have fun and see what everyone can do, maybe even stretch you all a bit.

Hello,
I have a question about the Pemeire only portion. Does that mean DIgitaljuice products, music or otherwise is not allowed? How about music from CD's or freeplaymusic?
Thank you,
aroski

Hi Aroski,
The only rule for the Premiere Elements only category is that the video must be edited completely with Premiere Elements.
You can use motion backgrounds from anywhere but you cannot create your own with After Effects or any other tool except Premiere Elements.
What you use in your video must be available to any other contestant to use in theirs. You can use music but you cannot edit it outside of Premiere Elements.
Is that understandable?
Thanks :)

Question about the format: There are 3 different quality settings to choose from when saving 320x240 WMV files (128k, DSL, LAN). Any tips on which is the best to use?

Thanks in advance (...again).

Just use the DSL setting, that one has always worked fine for me.
