Free VST plugins for audio

Postby JohnnyO » Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:31 am

I found some interesting free VST plugins that workk in Premiere Elements. These are for audio effects.

I have started using a couply of these on my soundtracks and they produce great results. I particularly like the Stereo Touch at times, and also the Tube amp. I used the Tube amp to amplify the sound from a video where my son's Tae Kwon Do instructure was making a speach about him. The soundtrack went from mediocre to wow! I can really hear the speach.

These plugins are from a company named Voxengo, and here is the web site for the freebies:

http://www.voxengo.com/group/freevst/

After extracting the files from the download, just copy the .dll file to the Premiere Elements plugin directory:

program_files\adobe\premiere Elements\plug-ins\en_US\VSTPlugins

I made subbfolder called Voxengo and put the plugins in there. I don't think creating a subfolder is necessary though.

JohnnyO,

Thanks for the link. Now properly bookmarked. I've picked up some useful VST's over the years, and mostly use them in Audition. I'll give some of these a go, and also try them in PE4. Have not added any to that program.

Quick question: I know that PP2 will look in my Audition VST's and use any that apply. Actually, it'll even hook some that do not, and on the first load, will give me a message that " ____ .dll" VST will not function in PP2. Does PE do this as well, or do you need to copy the VST's into a PE folder?

Thanks,

Hunt

I don't know if you would get that error. I copied the .dll to the VST plugin folder in PRE7. The plugins show up under audio effects and give no error messages at all.

JohnnyO,

Thanks for the info. I'll probably pick up a few of these and see how they play with Audition, and then copy some to PE, if it does not go look into other Adobe programs for VST's. Since my PP2 & Audition are in the Production Premium suite, there might well be more interactivity, than with a stand-alone Adobe NLE. I'll report what PE does, or does not do.

Appreciated,

Hunt

Thanks JohnnyO. Downloaded all the free ones and was able to try each one for a few seconds. The beeper plug-in that is beta this year doesn't work, but the other beeper from 2007 works fine.

I sometimes use the Voxengo SPAN FFT Spectrum Analyzer plugin, temporarily, in an attempt to 'see' the kinks in problem audio. Your experience with the Tube Amp sounds interesting.

The VST plugin I use most often is the Kjaerhus Audio Classic EQ 7 band equalizer. It shows up in the Properties Panel looking just like a real equalizer. Price is right, too.
