Discussions concerning Premiere Elements version 1 - 4.

For some odd reason I now get the ever dreaded “Sorry a serious error PE need to close will attempt to save your file”. From the looks of things there is no actual fix. Everyone seems to have their home remedies (I have tried them all) and nothing appears to work.
I have uninstalled PE 3.02 re-installed PE 3.02 updated the graphics driver & the audio driver but I am at a loss as to what to do next. I am using an HP6910P laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile Processor- 80 GB Hard Drive- 2 GB Memory.
Is there anything else I can update????

I defragged drive on saturday, I have approx 35GB free space on internal drive. I use external drives for all video files. I have also updated with the latest Quicktime too. I feel like an addict wanting to edit video and I cannot.....Uncle Chuck & Uncle Steve Help... Sidd

Are you saying that you can't use Pre El at all, or just this project gives you the error?

35GB of free space isn't much. Can you free up some space and see if that makes a difference?

Defragging often is certainly necessary when you get down to 30 gigs free and under. The program needs huge chunks of hard drive space -- and it needs it to be contiguous. So the more big blocks you have clear the better. It's also possible that invisible temp files and other such junk are taking up more space than you think. That's why I run regular weekly maintenance to keep things clean. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=0Also, going to a full load of 4 gigs of RAM (from 1.5) also made a huge difference in terms of stability for me. Which is strange -- because 1.5 gig used to be plenty to run Premiere Elements 7! It must be an updated Windows thing. Even limiting my background processes, my programs seem to eat a lot more memory. Finally, you can try the old two-finger launch -- holding down the left side Ctrl and Alt buttons as the program launches to clean out any corruptions in the cache. Adobe has more information on deleted possibly corrupted files in their KB article. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/514/cpsid_51427.html

Sidd,
When you say that you tried everything, does that include deleting the preferences file that's in a hidden folder?
c:\documents and settings\Sidd\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\3.0\Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs
Sometimes you may need to delete the entire folder, however, doing so deletes anything you customized such as presets. So make a copy of that 3.0 folder so you can restore it in case deleting the folder doesn't solve your problem or so you can copy back individual customized settings that are in the subfolders.

Hi RJ,
Yes I have deleted that folder a couple of times before each re-install. Because I was so frustrated I installed Premiere Pro CS3 thinking that it might change something on my system and make PE 3.02 able to run again. The good news is that PPro CS3 works great but PE 3.02 still does not work. So If I end up using Pro I cannot enter the Muvipix contests.
I would love to know how to fix this…
Sidd

Sidd, we always have Open Categories where you can use any editor With all of the great work you do it is probably time to bite the bullet and go Pro

Sidd, have you tried one of the trials, such as PRE8? I don't know if trials for 4 or 7 are still available. Might be worth a try.

Hey Sidd, just think of Pro as Elements on steroids and then some.

I completed editing two soccer games in PPro and I have to say I really like it a lot. Some things are a bit more manual than PE3 but very close. I think I will retire good old PE 3.02. I also just purchased a Sony FX7 and it makes sense to edit footage from that camera with Pro. Now Mr. After Effects I am calling your name.... Sidd

With what you have done with just Premiere Elements 3 Sidd, I can't wait to see what you would do with After Effects and Premiere Pro
