A couple of questions to help clarify the problem, if I may.

The audio track that you want is in a directory? On its own? Are the video tracks linked to the audio in any way? Exactly how are you adding the audio? Are you using 'Add Media'? Or some other method?
AMD Ryzen 3900x 12C/24T, ASUS x570 mobo, Arctic Liquid Freezer ll 280, Win11 64 bit, 64GB RAM, Radeon RX 570 graphics, Samsung 500GB NVMe 980 PRO (C:), Samsung 970 Evo SSD (D:), Dell U2717D Monitor, Synology DS412+ 8TB NAS, Adobe CS6.

In addition to John's questions, what format is the audio file you are trying to select?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

thanks John - i got round it, but it has thrown up another question

i was trying to select single stills for a slide show and one WAV file for a soundtrack. i could not understand why the media selector panel kept offering me everything in the folder instead of just the files i wanted, then i realised you could uncheck any files you wanted, then things were plain sailing :)

but i am trying to match stills to the music, and every time i slot a new still into the timeline, or shuffle stills around, it creates a gap in the audio line. sure i can drag the audio line back together but after a couple of dozen out and intakes the audio line starts to resemble a horizontal ladder - is there anyway i can stop the audio fragmenting every time i introduce a new still please?

thanks

Try holding down the CTRL key while you move the files around, that will stop the audio from getting split but it also may raise other questions or problems. Placing the audio after you are done arranging is the best solution.

thanks Chuck,

yes i can see that. what i'll do is carry on with the threadbare WAV as a guide then cut and replace that with a best quality WAV

will also experiment with the CTRL key
