Export small segment - not entire timeline

Postby cknittle » Sat Oct 31, 2009 7:48 am

Hope there are still people reading this section... :)

Consider a sports video - an entire football game - as one clip. Move it to the timeline and you begin editing it - splitting at appropriate points, keeping some parts, "delete and close gap" on other parts. You reach a section of the game where something funny happens so you'd like to export 5 seconds and store that off into a folder call "bloopers", for example, because you're not working on bloopers yet.

The only way I have found to do this is:
1) Save file
2) remove from timeline everything except that 5-second clip (This could mean deleting 50 clips from the timeline)
3) File->Export->Movie
4) File->Open Recent Project-><name of *this* project> (make sure you click NO to "Do you want to save changes?")

Is there an easier way? A Rightclick->Export Clip would sure be convenient.

Thanks.

Just above your timeline is a gray bar called the Work Area Bar. It has little handles on each end, which you can drag to exactly the beginning and end of the segment that you want to save. When you go to File, Export, Movie, in the settings there is an option for "Range." Change it from Entire Timeline to Work Area Bar. Your export will only contain the video you specified.

EDIT: When you're finished and want to extend the WAB to include the entire project again, zoom out so the entire project is visible, and double-click the WAB. It will automatically fit to the length of the project.
Be yourself; everyone else is taken.

There are two very nice tutorials in the Products section on Using the Work Area Bar.
They are free if you are a subscriber at either the Learning Basic or Premiere level.
