How do I use a previous PE 4 Project in a new project?

Postby Dale » Wed Oct 14, 2009 2:01 pm

I am currently working with captured underwater HD video from 11 tapes, keeping each "raw" tape in a seperate file. I have done a "rough cut" and am now doing a "fine cut" (what are the correct terms?) to each tape, and would eventually like to combine these fine cuts, or portions thereof, into one or more DVD's on various subjects, e.g. fish, land shots, critters, etc.

I have no problem importing raw video into a project, but can't seem to import a project into a project (fine cut of tape 1 + fine cut of tape 2). Could someone tell me how?

Dale

PS I am the person looking for the "perfect" intuitive filing system for both raw materials as well as projects under construction, then finished projects!

Hi Dale.

You can't import a "project", at least in "elements". Just export the video from the project as an .AVI file (Ctrl-M) and then import the AVI into you new project.

I do this all the time, as most of my DVDs have chapters - each chapter being a separate project (.prel file) and then I combine it into an Assembly project at the end.

Thanks...I figured it was something relatively simple. My biggest problem with the HELP info is being able to ask the right questions in the correct format to get an answer.

I will try that now and let you know how it goes.

PS If you do not hear from me in a reasonable time, I may have used the hammer!

I got a bit side tracked doing some more editing, but then tried to SHARE to computer. I chose the dedicated E drive to save to, which has oodles of space. The first 2 times I tried, I got the message out of memory, or something like that. Then after double checking the space on the drive, I tried again, and it is now rendering & saving the video to the right place, hopefully. Will keep my fingers crossed.

A shortcut to export an AVI is Ctrl-M - saves a few mouse clicks.
