Discussions concerning Premiere Elements version 1 - 4.

Sometimes a problem is merely annoying but too hard to fix. And, I may have had this problem with PrEl V2 for some time. Did a search here but found nothing relevant.
I have been downconverting HDV video to Widescreen DV from the Canon HV20 for at least a year and a half and have always had the red line above my clips when imported to the Timeline. I have been going in to the V2 Setup screen before creating each project and changing the default preset to DV - NTSC Widescreen 48kHz just before creating each new project. This time I decided to investigate why this problem and - after clicking the 'Save as Default' button in the Setup screen, I immediately closed PrEl. I immediately re-opened PrEl and checked Setup and found the default had not changed but had retained the 'Standard' DV preset.
So, I find that all this time I have never really been creating a widescreen project. The standard widescreen DV preset is available but my PrEl V2 won't remember it. I also tried saving one the of the PAL presets and they won't save either. I can't seem to find where the preset default preference would be saved.

I would sure love to help you troubleshoot this one Ken but I don't have version 2 installed anywhere anymore.

In my experience, the program always uses the last project preset you used as your default, until you change it.
I'm surprised to hear that's not the case for you, Ken. I wonder what's up!

Thanks, guys, for the encouragement. For some reason I could not make V2 come up in widescreen mode. While waiting for replies I played with Sony Vegas Movie Studio V8 and Magix Movie Edit Pro V12. I must be getting old - too much trouble! I've kept PrEl V2 because it is rather basic, stable, does all I need - and I am familiar and comfortable with it. I think I will uninstall the others because I no longer have the inclination to learn a completely different way of editing.
Well, I decided to try starting up PrEl V2 again and, voila! It presented a widescreen monitor window. I added my first clip to the Timeline and there was no red line! I'm baffled. I am an old troubleshooter at heart and there is NOTHING different between now and earlier. Perhaps an exorcism is in order?
I will add that the handwriting is on the wall for V2. The wife and I will probably upgrade our PCs when Windows 7 comes out. With little likelihood that V2 will continue running properly in that OS - I might as well jump up a whole lot of versions! Please tell me that V8 won't be THAT much different than V2!

Can't really say anything about it, history says it should make an appearance in the next few weeks. I can say that if there is a version 8, and if version 8 happens to make an appearance in the near future, I bet it won't look much different from version 7

If there was ever anyone I thought I could trust with a secret, Chuck it would be you! Your non-disclosure verbiage reveals little.
BTW, are you staying dry these days?

The sun came out today and some of the roads are open again. Here is some good video of the reality of the situation http://www.wsbtv.com/video/21062091/index.htmlHere are pictures of Six Flags Over Georgia, only about 15 miles from my house. Six Flags is just off of HWY 20 which is still closed due to the Chattahoochee River flooding. http://www.inquisitr.com/38734/pics-six ... ia-floods/

Yeow! These are startling! Glad you're well.
Any idea how things are in Douglasville? I'm a bit concerned about my uncle and his family.

Partial Flood Area.jpg Looking at the images in the post above you will see much mention of Mableton and Douglasville, both shown on this map. You can also see the location of Sweetwater Creek State Park and Chuck's house.

It depends on the part of the city, the closer to the Chattahoochee and Sweetwater Creek the worse it gets. If he lives near town it isn't near as bad unless there is a lake, creek or river nearby. I can check up on them if you want me to Steve.
