I captured HDV into a standard project but
because of the project length (about 45 segments varying from 1 minute to 5 minutes each) the
program jams on output.

Exprot Error
Error Compiling Movie
Disc Full

The problem is that I was trying to convert all these mpeg files to avi files so that I could put them into 1 big project - I have now learned about downcoding (thnks Steve) and will do that from here on out........

So the question is, Is there a way to change the
project settings to HDV so that you can avoid having to rebuild the
entire project?

This thing wont even export a 90 second file................and I am trying to save on an empty hard drive.......

I think what coolstuff is asking is--

It's technically not possible to change a project's settings mid-project. But is there a hack to get into the project's .prel file and change the project settings from standard DV to HDV?

I thought I once saw that someone came up with a way to edit the .prel file in Notepad or Word as an RTF or TXT file.

You can easily change a project .xml file to change a project from say 4:3 to 16:9 or vice versa. But from DV-AVI standard definition to MPEG2 or MPEG4 high definition!!!... I am not sure.

As I said in our e-mail, John, the issue is likely that "invisible" stuff is clogging things up -- temp and render files associated with your project, general temp files scattered around your hard drive, registry gunk, fragmentation, spyware, Premiere Elements media cache filling up.

That's why I recommended that you save a copy of your project into a new folder with a new name(so that the program will have to create all new temp and render files), clear your cache, run my full maintenance regimen, then hold your breath and hope you can output one good DV-AVI using Share.

If this works, you can open a standard DV project, use the DV-AVI as your source file to complete your project and then never again try to mix HDV media in a standard DV project.

so - I gotta say a big thank you again for all the EXTRA help that Steve gave me !!!!

he is the man -and this forum is one of the best for anyone needing help with these kinds of problems...

seems as though I figured out the export error problem...............(I hope)

guess what I forgot to do -

SETTINGS on the export save!

so -

it immediately said

EXPORT ERROR

Error compiling movie

Disc Full

i almost started to cry!

ha

BUT

I realized I did NOT set the correct SETTINGS on the export save

so

I have changed those to the way Steve told me to and I have saved about 11 files already ranging from 1 minut to 5 minutes in length...........

the problem NOW is that I am unable to HEAR anything in Premiere

I checked You Tube and the speakers work fine - so

is there some kind of mute button I may have accidently pressed?

I have not yet shared on DVD to see if the final product will ahve sound or not............

Before I saw your post, John, I actually wrote to you with those very instructions -- so I guess great minds think alike!

John, by the way, actually drove all the way from Iowa to Milwaukee in the dead of winter to spend a day with me, troubleshooting his machine and his project. I'm proud to say we got him up and running again -- and I think we each made a new friend in the process! (He even stayed for spaghetti!)

These are things that happen in the Muvipix community that don't happen in any other web group in the world. Thanks again to you all for making it that kind of place!

Folks, my door, and my table, is always open to members of the Muvipix community!

But I'm hardly a hero here. John did the hard part. He lugged his gear and very large computer all the way across Illinois! I never had to leave my house.

And the whole experience just reminded how much I long for the opportunity to get this Muvipix caravan thing going. It would be so cool to travel around the country (the world?) and meet as many of you as we can.

yes - I really think that a seminar on the basics and then perhaps a followup class for people that actually think they know what they are doing is a good idea

I would think you would have to have a lot of corporate support though.........

normal guys like me may not be able to afford a flight somewhere .......

That is why this forum is so great - if you are just beginning (by the book) or way advanced - you have the experts right here.

and I REALLY enjoyed the grape kool aid and the meat balls!!!!
