Salvaging PE4 and PE9 project files

Postby Matthew Max » Fri Feb 28, 2014 7:52 am

Somebody's gonna get a big sloppy kiss for solving my problem.

I have hundreds of PE4 and PE9 project files from previous years and you know how technology has changed. I also make hundreds of videos in CSS5.5.

Is there any way to efficiently create mp4's out of these PE4 and PE9 project files themselves? I mean from these projects files directly to mp4 format.

Did you make a copy of one of those old projects and try to open it in Premiere Pro?
I know Premiere Pro CS5.5 will open my Premiere Elements 3 projects.

Well, first you'll need to ensure you have Premiere Elements versions 4 and 9 installed on your computer. You do NOT want to open these projects with a version of the program other than the one that created them!

Otherwise, the toughest thing will be finding a decent way to output MP4s -- since AVCHD output wasn't added until version 10.

The smart thing to do might be to output videos as DV-AVIs and then using a program like Quicktime Pro ($29 from Apple) to convert these files to MP4s.

Although, if you're going to edit this video in Premiere Pro, why output MP4s? Assuming these are standard definition videos, why not just output DV-AVIs, which Premiere Pro will have no problems editing. And you can even use CS5.5 to create MP4s from this video if you'd like.

Well, well, on my old computer I just converted a PE4 file to avi in one measly minute. That is FAST.

Yes, i will edit these a dab in Pro and export them in Adobe Media Encoder as MP4's.

But I'm using my old computer to convert to avi. I'm not sure PE4 and PE9 will work right on my newer 64-bit computer, will they?
