PE3 and MP4

Postby AVITRY » Fri Sep 20, 2013 4:29 pm

Hi all. Quick question, will PE3 handle taking an mp4 file to the timeline and burning it to DVD format, or will I need a newer version? Someone has some MP4 and asked me to put them in DVD format. I don't want to accept doing this and then not be able to.

Thanks
joe

Premiere Elements 3 does support mp4 format files. But, mp4 is a container format, not all possible codecs that can be used in an mp4 file are supported. They may or may not be usable in PE3. Can you get one to test before accepting the project?

Yes I can, I just called. If it makes a difference the person told me that quicktime is the program that opens when he clicks on the file. I assume that quicktime handles multiple mp4 codecs as well so that may not tell anything, right?

While I have you, :) Any freeware transcoding or burning programs that can input a variety of mp4s and create DVDs from them? This might be the only time I ever do this and cheapo that I am, I hate to buy a program just for this time.

EDIT ...... Good news and bad news.

The bad news is that Vers 3 wouldn't recognize this particular flavor of mp4

The good news is I'm an idiot. When I started my video editing computer (which I haven't used in months) I saw and remembered I purchased and installed vers. 10 quit a while ago. Duh .... oh well it's burning now.
thanks,
