Hi Everyone,
I have spent time looking through old posts and haven't quite found what I was looking for. I am trying to do an effect that Cheryl has done such a wonderful job with-the picture in a window or door. Cheryl, you used it in your 2009 contest video and Turkey video. What is the easiest way to achieve this effect? I want to put a picture in a door and then zoom in. I am not sure if this is a matte effect or what! I have to admit, I have only been doing a video or two a year and I tend to forget so much what I learn when I don't use it.
As always, I appreciate all the help I can get!
Thank you! Kerrie

Are the two clips you're working with (the window frame and the background) video or stills? The process would be different depending on whether you're working with stills or moving images.

I've been planning a tutorial on this exact effect for about a year now, must be time to do one

There are 2 ways. It is very difficult in PrEl or even PrPro to do this effect. For my contest entry there were tons of keyframes.
Method 1 using 2 photos. First photo keyframe position & scale. Add the second photo and keyframe position & scale. It is tricky if you want the second photo to move in relationship with the first photo.
Method 2 using 2 photos merged into 1. Merge the 2 in PSE and make a fairly large file. Keyframe in PrEl and when you zoom into the window swap out the the photo with the 2nd photo.
I used both methods in the contest entry.
Someone else asked about this about 2 years ago and I uploaded screen shots & an explanation. If I find that thread I'll post back here. Or maybe someone else can find it too.
The Turkey slideshow was made in AE and it was a lot easier to create this effect.

You are very welcome Kerrie. Hope you can post a sample, would love to see what you come up with. One thing to remember is try to keep photo 1's & 2's movement the same rate of speed. Just eye it. This will help with the effect.

Cheryl,
I almost have what I want. In photoshop I changed the door to a lime green color. I then in a separate premiere project used the green key and adjusted the person in the door and made it into an avi. Then put it into my project- keyframed my zoom and and worked with adding the second picture into the end and expanded the size. It doesn't look quite as good as yours but it is pretty close to the the effect I wanted. My parents are retiring after 35 years of owning a bar/restaurant and I am putting a video to gather of friends and fun times for their farewell party. It is a fun video to work on!
Thanks again~!!!

My parents owned two bar/restaurants in Wisconsin over the years Kerrie, I know how hard that is. They had places in Coleman (north of Green Bay) and Kewaunee (Door County). My sisters grew up spending more time in the restaurant than they spent at home. My brother and I both tended bar and I was the assistant cook as well. That was a long time ago but still brings back some good memories Sounds like a great project and it should be a lot of fun for your parents

Truly a fun project, Chuck, but yes very emotional. The opening song is Cheers-which truly is the best way to describe their place. As I work with the pictures I remember friends that have passed away and so many stories. We will be playing it on their very last day at their farewell party-and my parents don't know. I get tears in my eyes now when I do it, I don't think there will be a dry eye in the house either. My brother has done a nice job gettting videos of friends wishing them well to put in the video. This has been a great project to get me back into the hobby I enjoy so much! Now....back to work!!! And boy, am I glad I have this site here for help!!
