menu text not saving properly

Postby Peru » Wed Oct 17, 2007 1:00 pm

After creating a menu for a PE3 project and saving and closing the project, when reopening the project the main and submenus font and thumbnail sizes, styles, or placement is not as was saved. It appears to be randomly different each time. Sometimes a button might even be missing. Eveything else about the project saves properly. I have tried many different menus and several different projects. It does not matter if it is saved with or without burning the project to disc.
I have installed the only update to PE3, but this did not make a difference.
I am running Windows XP Media Center, 2GB Ram, core two duo, Geforce graphics card (can't remember the model, but has either 256 or 528 Ram), 500 GB hard drive. I always disconnect from the internet, run Adaware, Spysweeper, disk clean, defrag, and restart before working on a project.
Is this just a bug in PE3, or can this be fixed?

What fonts are you using in the menu?

Can you confirm that those fonts are installed on your computer?

I use the DVD menu templates provided with PE3.

I usually use Microsoft Sans Serif, but the problem still occurs if I use the default fonts for the menu. I have the fonts properly installed, and they work with all of my word processing, Photoshop, and other video and graphics programs.

You might want to try re-installing the Templates from the installation DVD, something doesn't seem right.

And I'm chasing this same thread on two different forums. So last question from me here and I'll surrender this one to Chuck:

Bob, do you get the same results if you try another template or is this problem unique to this template? If so, which template is it?

Why not just commit the topic to one forum, you pick Peru, where do you want to finish this here or on the Adobe forum?

My apologies- I didn't realize the same people were monitoring both forums. I will stick with this forum. I do appreciate you both spending your time trying to help me solve my problem.

My problem has occured with every DVD menu I have used, every time (about 10 different menus).

Should I reinstall the whole PE3 program or just the menu templates? How would I install the templates seperately from the rest of the program? Do I need to uninstall first?

To reinstall the Templates just put the installation DVD in your drive and select as circled below;
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I will try that this week when I have a few minutes at that computer and let you know how it worked out. Thanks for the quick replies.

Chuck,

I reinstalled the templates as per your instructions and things are working much better. I was able to fix the menus of almost all of my projects and the changes were saved properly. There was one version of a project which for some reason would not save the menu changes and opened differently each time, but I will live with it as it is a copy of one that saved the changes properly!

I am looking forward to creating a new project, since it appears that the menu problem has been fixed.

Thanks for your help. :-D
