Discussions concerning Premiere Elements version 1 - 4.
by MikeV99 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 7:59 pm
I am trying to create a DVD show to play on my TV. I would like a Main Menu that has links to 3 submenus. Within each of those submenus I want links to 2 or 3 groups of slides.
Main Menu Scene 1 Scene 2 Scene 3
Scene 1 Submenu Slide group 1 Slide group 2 Slide group 3
If I use a Menu template for the slide show, I can get Main Menu 1 and Scene 1 submenu. However, all attempts to get multiple Scene submenus have failed. I have read the online help (arggg...).
Can anyone tell how to do this or direct me to something to read? Does anyone have a small sample of this which I could download and study?
Thanks.
Mike.

Hi Mike, Creating sub menus is something that Premiere Elements is not very good at. I think to do what you want to do you may have to export your finished product as DV-AVI and bring it into a more sophisticated DVD menu editor. I know there's a few people on the forum that use Encore (which would probably be overkill for what you need to do) There's another software that is commonly recommended that a little cheaper and I think it would do what you need. Can't remember what it is though. Someone else will know...

I think that Jamal is referring to Sony DVD Architect Studio. It has lots of menu control and goes for around $50 on Amazon.
Jennifer Currently the owner of an embarrassingly slow system, hoping that will change!

Thank you both for your post. Sony DVD Architect Studio -- I will go check it out. I have also been told that Nero Slideshow will do it, but got a virus complaint from my checker when I downloaded their trial version. Mike

You can have something similar with Premiere Elements, you just have to work withing its capabilities.
MAIN MENU Play All Scene Menu
SCENE MENU Scene 1 Scene 2 Scene 3
Will that work?
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory. 2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

Chuck,
I am starting to think that I should just work within the limits of Premiere with the one menu and one scene setup.
Best I can tell, one can attach narrative, sound tracks, and so on to each scene individually. Can I do everything to build my DVD within Premiere or do I need something like the Sony DVD Architect program?
If I understand it correctly, Premiere and Proshow Gold do basically the same thing?
Thanks,
Mike

You can do everything in Premiere Elements if you can work within the available features, I did all of my work in Premiere Elements for years. It wasn't until earlier this year that I needed more functionality with the DVD menus and had to move to Encore DVD. For the Most part I think that Premiere Elements DVD Menus are just fine.

And, as my Steve's Tips article "Make An Amazing DVD Menu!" shows, you can do some pretty cool things within Premiere Elements limitations. http://muvipix.com/products.php?maincat ... ubcat_id=7
