Specific to Premiere Elements Version 7.

My son-in-law has just completed his deployment and arrived home yesterday!!! We are beyond happy. The local news presented a clip of the soldiers coming home. I'd like to use the audio for this in my year in review video this year and was wondering if there is a way I can save this clip and bring it into Adobe Premiere? Any thoughts? First, congrats on your SIL's happy return! I'm sure you're thrilled to have him back.
As for your clip, how is it recorded now? on a DVR? VHS? That will determine how you use it later.
Also, do you really want the audio only? If youv'e got the video too, that would make an even more powerful piece.

Hi Steve,
I do want both to appear in the video. I want to have the part where the soldiers are being welcomed home. And then I want to add photos from the welcome home party that we are planning to have on August 6th, maybe with the piece playing and then some pictures fading in and out.
This link came from a newscast and I'm not sure how I can save it and bring it into Premiere. Currently it's just online.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

If you're using Firefox, go to the Mozilla site and look for media downloaders. Many are YouTube specific, but some should work with any online content.
Once you've saved it to your hard drive, it's just a matter of ensuring it's in the right format.

Could you post the link? I have several free downloaders and stream recorders installed in my computer here at work. I can try to see which would work best for you. I found it. I'll see what I can come up with.

I posted just yesterday on the procedure for downloading and saving streaming video. Firefox is the way to go, according to the post--just follow the procedure that he mentions for adding DownloadHelper after you've downloaded and opened Firefox from mozilla.com http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=9797&p=86069#p86069

Have you contacted the station to see if they will give you a copy? They are usually pretty good about that. Downloading what is on the internet is not going to be very good quality and the resolution is very small. I'm sure this was recorded and broadcast in HD, see if they will give you copies the files or help you get a better quality than what is online

Chuck, that is what I thought, too, but when I chose from the options provided by Firefox's DownloadHelper that I wanted to download and save an online video for future playback on Windows Media Player at 1080p, I was amazed to see that is what I got. If, as you suggest, the clip was shot and broadcast in HD, shouldn't s/he be able to dowload and save it in HD? Or, is there something I am misunderstanding?

Hi George, The clip that I saw available for viewing online is FLV, or some other form of Flash Video, definitely not HD. Did you download the clip that Theresa is talking about? I'm not sure there will be multiple options, or maybe the download helper can upconvert the video and do a good job, I don't know.

No, it was from a popular web site. My understanding is that Firefox's DownloadHelper will list only those choices that it is capable of producing, and for the file that I was interested in, 1080p was among the choices. So, I'm surmising that, if the clip to which Theresa refers was shot in HD, then FF's DH will offer HD as an option. P.S. The author of the Windows Secrets article that I posted recently states that Firefox is by far the most capable of downloading and saving streaming videos.

Most newscasts are in HD now, so most of the footage is shot in HD and broadcast in HD. That does not mean that the content on the stations web site is available in HD. All that I could find was a very low resolution flash video file of the story Theresa is interested in. That is why I suggested contacting the station as they most likely have a copy of the original HD video on file at the station.

Just to add some support to Chuck's suggestion about contacting the broadcaster. I did just that here in the UK for a short piece that was broadcast on the regional TV station and I was very surprised and happy to realise just how helpful they were in providing the clip and posting a DVD to me. Definitely worth asking.

I used Streaming Video Recorder http://www.recordstreamingvideo.net/ (There is a free trial that can be downloaded) which I had gotten a while back from giveawayoftheday as a free version. I was able to download it as an mp4. The program has a converter which can also convert it into many other formats. Were you able to get a copy from the TV station?

Peru, is the quality any better than what is seen online?
