Audio Intermittantly Cutting out

A new problem for me. I'm working on a video in PE7 on my Gateway X9650 processor, 4GB memory, Vista 32 bit....should be plenty of power.
Audio cuts out intermittently after importing music, or like today, after I made an adjustment to a song. Normally it plays all vid and audio tracks fine.
I changed the computers audio card setting from "entertainment mode" to "audio creation mode" and it helped.....once.
If I close and re open PE7 everything is fine again. But if I make a change (raise or lower volume) on a song, it goes back to cutting out....but not every time. I render every few changes by hitting the enter key....This is frustrating. Any ideas?

If the cut-outs are random (as opposed to always happening at the same place every time), it's an old bug in the program.

It happens on the Mac version as well as the PC version -- not that that's any consolation.

Yup, same as Steve and others I experience the same thing, random audio dropouts.
Doesn't happen all the time or with every project, but it does happen sorry to say.

It can be very frustrating at times. Could be related to the project size, it seems to happen more often when I have a lot of clips.

Yes, completely random. No rhyme or reason. Project size is only 9 minutes at this point.

Bummer, but I'm sure if there was a solution you would have said....Thanks for the replies.
