My audio and video split up and land on far-apart tracks?

Specific to Premiere Elements Version 7.

My audio and video split up and land on far-apart tracks?

Postby ChancyRat » Sun Aug 01, 2010 3:39 pm

I would appreciate knowing why this happens and how to prevent it, or does it matter?
I'm not sure what I'm doing. I suspect it happens when I move clips around? What I end up seeing is, for example, the audio of a particular clip on track 4, and the video portion is on track 2. This is an .m2ts file. Usually (right?) they are together, for example on track 4. I've chosen to clear the clip and drag it back in, assuming I haven't edited it, to "start fresh". Does it matter, when and why?
Thanks.

This is usually an indicator of a mismatch in your project setting, Chancy.

When you created your project, you selected the AVCHD project preset, right? But, apparently, your video also shoots in 5.1 audio, so you'll need to select the AVCHD project preset that matches your video AND has support for 5.1 audio.

When you, your audio and video will load directly to the Video 1 track, as it should.

Ahhh-YUP, AVCHD, that's me with my multi-generational pre-set whose specs I fail to remember. I have not been able to get clipmate to work so unfortunately I have no easy way to get all the clips in my organizer to a new pre-set, which is why I've been lazy and wrong in using the last preset project for the next one.
Have I caused problems in the videos I've processed to date, doing this?
I could swear I had figured out the correct pre-set, including 5.1 audio.
How can I tell what preset I selected in the one I'm currently working on?
Thanks.

Since we're into this topic of video landing on track 4... Since putting titles or other clip types either before or after the video causes it to show behind or in front of the video, why would one want video to land on track 1? I guess I thought the tracks before track 4 were space for other types of formats. Do you just have to add more tracks before track 1 to put them in the right location?

Thanks, George. Me too!

Sorry, Chancy. I don't understand your last question.

Can anyone out there field it?

There are two questions:
- From inside a project, how do I tell which preset I had chosen to open and start working? (I was certain I had chosen the 5.1 audio version, is there a way I can tell if I did?) I have looked in all the options for any indicator and see none.

- The second one isn't really a question, I think... I just noticed formats that overlap each other (blend) have to be in a certain order for the visual effect to be what you want. What I have typically is:
Track
2 = audio
3 = png
4 = jpg
5 = title slide
I can't remember which re-order messes things up but I believe if you put the png on track 5 (instead of 3) and the title on 3 (instead of 5), you don't see the title any more, it's hidden. Or something like that. You can forget this if my language is confusing. :mrgreen:

You can see which settings your project is using by going to the Edit menu and selecting Project Settings. These settings are read-only, as you know, and can't be changed mid-project.
