Just purchased a new machine and am running Windows 7. I would like to optimze my settings prior to loading PE 7.
I have the Vista optimization tips from Steve. Do these apply to Windows 7 as well?
Thanks.

Re: Win 7 optimizationYes, they do, nas. Although, if you've got a decently powered system, you may not need them. The Aero interface, for instance, won't dog a computer with a quad core processor, and you should have more than enough power run Premiere Elements, for instance. I've only found the Sidebar to be a major drain.
On the other hand, my regular maintenance program still applies. It's what's kept my computers running like new for over 5 years! http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30 HP Envy with 2.9/4.4 ghz i7-10700 and 16 gig of RAM running Windows 11 Pro
Re: Win 7 optimizationThanks Steve.
My system is an HP Elite 17oEF i7 920 9 GB ram (DD3) 1 TB HD nVidia GeForce GTX 260 (1.8 GB ?) So hopefully performance will not be an issue. But, I still like your maintenance diligence and will continue to practice that.
Re: Win 7 optimizationPerformance is ALWAYS an issue. In video, the unit of measure is "cups of coffee". It all depends on how many cups of coffee you want to drink while waiting for the video to render. The fastest PC you can put together (and yours is right up there) will still take a finite amount of time to render your video, so you may be in the market next year!
But I agree with Steve that system tuning should not be an issue in your case. You would get more mileage from going into PRE7 setup and adjusting the disc letters that various files are on. I tend to have my source files on C and temporary files on D. You may want to experiment a bit with different storage layouts. Bobby (Bob Seidel)
Re: Win 7 optimization
Bobby, I read the online versions of various newspapers while saving. That helps a lot with the pain.
