jagged edge on DVD export

jagged edge on DVD export

Postby demalibu » Mon Jul 12, 2010 7:37 pm

Hi,
I know this has been discussed before in depth so apologies.
My HDV project has really bad stepping (jagged edges) when I export to DVD and play it.
Also, when I capture, my capture window goes blank but is OK on preview. The capture settings for previews and capture are all ticked. Any suggestions please - specially the jagged edges.
Thanks Chris

Are you watching the DVD on your TV or your computer? Also are you working with the HDV in a HDV or SD project preset?

Premiere Elements does not preview HDV during capture, you need to view it on your camcorders screen

Hi Paul,
I'm watching it on a LCD TV and its a HDV shoot into a HDV project.
I retried it as a HDV-DV downcoversion into a SD project and it looked better - still figuring that out.
It looks OK playing on the timeline but the DVD export looks very jagged on the straight edges such as tables, chairs, etc when playing on my large Sony LCD.

I wonder if the problem is the straight edges viewed on your large screen TV. One thing to try is to right click the clip on the timeline and select Field Options, then select Flicker Removal. Try burning to a DVD-RW and see if this improves it.

Thanks Paul, I'll try that.
BTW - finished cutting and exporting it as a HDV-DV downconvert and SD project and it looks fine - maybe it's the way the LCD plays a HDV export as you mentioned.

Sometimes when you play larger aspect ratios in a smaller player window it does the jagged edges on straight lines. I've had to maximize windows to get rid of that plenty of times.
