Forum Help

Postby Little Nac » Fri May 14, 2010 8:36 pm

Hi Guys,
I'm a little new to this Forum, so please forgive me if I am in the wrong place.
I am wanting to post a New Topic with an attachment, for help with an effect in PE7.
The effect is a short AVI file of 75Mb in size.
Is this too big for the Forum? I have been trying to upload it to a New Topic, but with no success.
The green squares gradually go across, but then all stops.
Any help please in posting this effect.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Little Nac,
I think the limit to attachments in the forum is a bit smaller than that.
You can upload to the Gallery and then post a link, that is what most of us do when a file is large.
However, I think the individual file size limit in the Gallery is 50mb.

Ron will be around in the morning and he can help you, he is the keeper of the limits :)

Currently, the upload limit (to the Gallery) is 60MB. You probably don't want to upload an AVI file anyway as probably doesn't have web streaming capabilities (DV-AVI?).

Try using the "Share" feature and export it as a WMV or FLV. If you need help with that, or uploading to the Gallery, just post here :)

Thanks Guys.
I have changed it to a WMV and it is now 4.56Mb, 22 secs long.
I am completely lost as to how to put it into the Gallery.
By placing the WMV into the Gallery, does this mean I put the information in this
section, with the pic in the Gallery?
Help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Chuck.
I have tried what you suggested and I am able to create an Album, and I even did a test run with a 153Kb JPG and it worked.
But when I tried to upload the WMV of 4.6Mb the green squares gradually move across and when they reach the end, they just sit there and nothing happens.
I must be doing something wrong.
Any suggestions?
Little Nac :(

How long do you wait Little Nac?
It probably takes about 5 - 8 minutes to upload the file.
Maybe if you just wait a little longer, don't pay any attention to the green squares.

Thanks Chuck.
I didn't realize that it would take so much time. I actually put a timer on it, and it took exactly 5 minutes.
Now I know!!
So if anyone could check out the "Signature Effect" on the Gallery, and supply any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Here's the video:
http://muvipix.com/cpg/albums/userpics/ ... ns_WMV.wmv

What is it you want to know, Nac?

The effect was most likely created in After Effects, which includes a tool for doing it.

It's a lot more challenging in Premiere Elements, where many have tried to fudge the effect (including me) and it's never been very effective.

Thanks Steve.
I have After Effects so when I get a minute I'll give it a go.
My "Better Half" is away at the moment, but when she returns I'll give her your info and we'll try to work it out together.
Once again Steve, Many thanks. :-D

Here's a link to a signature effect I did a couple years ago. There's a brief description of what I used below the video.

Bixelangelo from http://www.outerspace-software.com can create effects like that. Also, I think I saw something in Prodad's Heroglyph Rapid that lets you draw signatures.

Thanks Guys.
We have done a hand-writing effect in Photoshop & Snagit then into PE7 which works fine, but I just thought this seemed to be a little different, and wondered if there was another way of doing it.
I'll take Steve's suggestion and look at After Effects a little later, as we do have Snagit and Bixelangelo.
Thanks again Guys.

Here's a topic thread from a while back dealing with the signature effect in Premiere Elements. It's fairly long and covers several methods. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=869

But, it's a lot easier to do it in After Effects.

That second link doesn't want to play for me right now. It's actually a tutorial on creative cow. Here's the direct link which plays fine for me.

There's also a part 2 which revisits the first and shows how to add a pen drawing the text.
