Crashing

Postby unplugged » Fri Sep 18, 2009 3:30 pm

My Pre 7 has been crashing (actually usually freezing) with greater frequency until at this point, I can't do more than a few things before it stops. I have tried rendering my work space, but that results in an immediate freeze. This is my first project. I thought I did everything right. I have Steve Grisetti's book, I have the best computer available. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. I spent about 30 hours on this project, and now it is unworkable. My computer is an HP with an i7 eight core processor with 12 GB of RAM. The video card is a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing working again?

Hi Unplugged, Welcome to Muvipix :meet:

What type of files are you working with, video? What format? Photos? What resolution?
Vista or XP? 32 bit or 64 bit?
How long is your project ?

Sorry about not being complete on the specs. The i7 is running a 64 bit Vista. (The 12GB RAM would be wasted otherwise.) The video is AVCHD format from a Sony HD camcorder. The video is about 35 minutes long with many transitions, two video tracks, (the two videos are because I used surround for the regular track and stereo for the underwater video) and two audio tracks and a soundtrack. The Pre 7 is putting out an error when I try to render at any point. (I have one small area that I rendered, but it took too long, and up to this point, the computer never broke a sweat.) Now, when I try to render, the error is the Premier Elements encountered an error [..\..\SRC\FileManagerImpl.cpp-101]. Then it gives me a runtime error and closes.

There are issues with Surround Sound audio, that I know for sure.
One of the folks with AVCHD knowledge will be along to help you out, hang in there.
Once the surround sound issue is resolved you should be in good shape.

I edit AVHCD without any problems but my Sony camcorder does not record in 5.1 sound. My computer setup is nowhere near what you are using so it may well be the 5.1 sound thats the killer here. Someone will share the solution I am sure. Good luck

Somebody must have a clue about this. What are the issues that people face when using surround sound audio in their projects?

I'm not sure if this will help, but do you actually use the video in the second video track? Is it just the audio you need? If so, unlink the video from the audio (right-click then select Unlink Video from Audio) and then disable the video (right-click on the video and clear the checkmark next to "Enable"). Alternatively, you could just delete the video (right-click and select "Delete Video").

The first video track is supposed to be in 5.1 surround. I did burn the unfinished movie to Blu-ray and the sound was only output to stereo at all times. Actually, the second video track is supposedly necessary because it uses a different audio output (stereo) because it comes from an underwater case with only two mics. I could delete the video, but it is an important part of the entire movie. I could try doing different things to a copy of the movie, but the problem with the program crashing was progressive over about three hours of editing. Finally, it just crashes whenever a change is made of any consequence.

No issues with surround sound... apart from it will be on a seperate audio track to any stereo. And of course PE7 will only export to stereo.

Ok, my mistake then. I thought there was an issue with 5.1 surround and how tracks didn't go where they were supposed to.

There must be some other problem with your setup then Unplugged. Could have to do with audio drivers, Quicktime, lots of different things. Anybody have any ideas or is this a new problem we haven't seen before?
