Big photos and no DVD

Postby apVhMU2* » Wed Jun 19, 2013 1:12 am

I need some guidance as I have rendered about 57 minutes of stills, including two short I- phone video segments. I now realize my photos need to be downsized and can't seem to get a downsizing batch going. The photos are in PSE 11 and am trying to edit in PreE 7. My computer may be at the end of its useful life, about 5 years old.
Getting to my present state I got transcoding errors and very low on system memory frequently. When I retitled and tried to do a AVI file the process ended with a failure to return a video frame error. Tried again on AVI and got error compling & out of memory and export error.
Do I need to start over with smaller pictures?

Since you are going to build a DVD slideshow from your photos, we recommend that you resize them all to 1000x750 pixels before you load them into your Premiere Elements project.

The easiest way to do this is to go to Photoshop Elements and, from the File menu, select Process Multiple Files. With this tool, you can select an entire folder full of photos and resize them all in one batch. If you indicate a new location for your resized photos, the program will even save your resized photos to this folder and leave your originals at fullr resolution.

When you set the size for your resized photos, you don't need to set both the Height and Width. Just set the Width to 1000 px and leave the option to Constrain checked and the program will base each photo's height on the width you indicated.

Thanks for your quick and helpful response. I have downsized the photos and am starting to rebuild the time line.

Well I'm back, I have a dvd but no sound for most of it. Looks like the AVI file is 11.6 GB. Seems very large? The program is 54 minutes long. There is a MOV file segment that has sound in the middle, and the program ending and first 12 minutes have audio.
I have full audio in PRE 7 for the entire program. The dvd settings are 1080 wide screen, and Dolby stereo. Burnt the dvd with Windows dvd maker (WDVDM). ????

Hi Harold & welcome to Muvipix! Sorry for your problems burning the DVD. Why not burn in Premiere Elements?

I'm not sure why (or how) you're creating a DVD with 1080p settings. DVDs are, by definition, 720x480i standard definition. So I'm not sure what's going on there or how you're using Windows DVD Maker. Am I missing something? Aren't we talking about a Premiere Elements workflow?

Don't worry about the size of your WAV file. Remember that everything gets re-encoded to DVD anyway. That's why a 14 gig AVI file turns into a 4 gig DVD file. All that matters is that it's a standard WAV file (44,100 12 bit or 16 bit sampling).

So, with WAV audio and photos sized to 1000x750 pixels, you're definitely on the right track. But the addition of Windows DVD Maker -- and your inclusion of an MOV in workflow -- has us a bit baffled. Isn't just just a slideshow with music? You should easily be able to output your DVD directly from your Premiere Elements 7 project.

Thanks for the welcome Cheryl. The good news is I have now been able to burn several complete DVDs. The reason Windows DVD maker was used, using a separate burner seemed to be indicated on pg. 152 in the burn disk work around in The Muvipix.com Guide to Adobe PE 7 by Steve Grisetti. It is possible I miss interpreted the instruction.

Steve,
Thanks for the good information. Yes, I am trying to talk about Premiere Elements work flow and I am confused on the 1080 settings.
The project is mostly a slide show with music, except for two MOV videos. I was trying to do the burn disk work around. So I deviated from Premiere Elements work flow due to repeated burn failures earlier with my larger pictures. I will try the Primiere Elements burn next time. However, going with WDVDM I did get the DVDs somehow.
Pinnacle kept trying to help out, but I was able to cancel it.
So I am happy on this end.
