AVI to MP4

Hi to Steve and Chuck and everyone! Merry Christmas! I have a Roku that will play MP4 video only from a USB flash drive. I am highly allergic to fumes created when burning a DVD. I need to put the MP4 movie on a USB Flash drive so my son can burn the DVD for me. Can PE7 burn a MP4 to DVD and if so, will the quality be the same as an AVI? In not PE7, can you suggest freeware to do so?

Hi 357, Merry Christmas to you also

:cm3:

The MP4 would get burned to the disc using standard burning software, not DVD authoring software.
In this case you are just burning the file to a disc, not creating a DVD structured with menus.
Some operating systems provide methods to do that, you can also use iTunes I believe, I use an old version of Sonic Record Now (v7.0) :)

If you are going to have this ultimately burned to a DVD it might be better to have a MPEG2 file rather than MPEG4.
It also makes a difference as to what software your son will use to burn the DVD. Do you know what software he will use?

How did you ever find out you were allergic to the fumes from burning DVDs? Sounds like something that would be hard to diagnose.

Chuck! I have Roxio and so does my son on the Dells we bought. I Have to use MP4, no other, I have tried. Roku will only play MP4 from USB. Of course, the movie files will have to be small enough to transport via USB flash in order for my son to burn for me. I do have a link to a freeware that might do the job , but will the quality be there? Anyway, I have really appreciated your help, as well as Steve's, over the years, and my self-help, do-it-yourself videos are on Youtube but you can Google adobekid1 and/or 1adobekid to see. Allergic? Boy! Am I ever! I have severe migraines from the burning of a DVD but the problems started much like Gulf War Syndrome in 1983 with flu-like symptoms. Problems so severe I had to close my auto repair business in 1990 after 25 years. Now I am allergic to so many things. Long story....

I understand that the Roku will only play MP4 but do you want to create a standard DVD with menus or just a movie file burned to a DVD disc? Premiere Elements can export a very good quality video and you can copy that to your Flash Drive. If you already have the video on the Flash Drive what do you want to put on the DVD? I not quite sure that I understand the goal.

I created the MP4 with PE7, put it on USB. Burn to DVD, no menus, autorun.

That should work just fine but may lose a little quality doing the conversion from MP4 to Mpeg2 for the DVD.
You could export two files from Premiere Elements, one for your Roku (mp4) and one to burn the DVD (mpeg2) :)
