In addition to John's suggestions, take a look at Lynda.com which has commercial video instruction. Not free, but you can get a reasonable subscription. Here is a link to the Premiere Pro basics course: http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=369. Some of the chapters are free. Watch them to see if they will work for you. Lynda.com also has After Effects courses.

http://www.videocopilot.com is all about After Effects and they have a free set of basic video training as well as many tutorials. See: http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/. And, http://www.creativecow.net has both Premiere Pro and After Effects tutorials although they are not organized into a cohesive training course.

For After Effects books, the "After Effects Apprentice" http://www.amazon.com/After-Effects-Apprentice-Second-Chris/dp/0240811364 is a basic introduction while "Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects: Essential and Advanced Techniques" http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Motion-Graphics-After-Effects/dp/0240810104 goes into depth.

After Effects is a very powerful program and it takes a while to master it. The basics are pretty easy, but there is much to learn and it will take time to become expert. A good book will help. After you get comfortable with the basics, you can learn a lot from watching the tutorials on Creative Cow, Video Copilot, and http://maltaannon.com/.

Keyframing, whether in Premiere Pro or Elements is identical, so are many of the other features.

Welcome to Muvipix Homod! I agree with all of the above posts for tutorials and books. Just finished the book 'After Effects Apprentice' and is very good to get started with the program. Working my way thru the follow up book Bob mentioned 'Creating Motion Graphics' now. Both books come with DVDs for sample projects to follow along with the books.

Now, I am a reader. The first thing that I do is hit the manual, cover-to-cover. I believe now, one has to buy the printed manual from Adobe, but my last version of PrPro came with one. Even with a background in film, there was much that did not sink in. I then launched the program and opened the manual again. Along with it, I also used Adobe Classroom in a Book, for both PrPro and Encore. For Encore particularly, I used Jeff Bellune's Focal Easy Guide to EncroreDVD 2.0. Though it lists EncoreDVD 2.0, 95% of it applies to Encore CS4 too.

For answers, tutorials, and the like, go to http://premierepro.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page. Look at both the FAQ's and at the tutorials. Most of what you would ever want to do will be linked from that site.
