Style Pack 5 Released

Postby VernonRobinson » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:25 am

Proshow has released Style Pack 5 for ProShow Producer and ProShow Web. It makes extensive use of their "3D" twist and turn, new to ProShow 5. The styles use quite a bit of masking, gradients, and other advanced features. I found the styles to be elegant, but must be used sparingly. For the person who wants to take their own creativity to another level, these styles provide a treasure trove of how-to techniques. So if you see a cool technique, you can deconstruct how it was done. If you are in a hurry, the Slide Style will provide you with the productivity boost.

No, I do not work for Photodex, but I am a user of their products. This style pack is destined to be a hit. Let me know what you think. Here's a link to the demo.

Thanks for posting this Vernon, love the effects.
All of that can be done in After Effects if you have the time but to be able to do this quickly would be awesome.

If you don't mind answering a few questions???
Can you insert video in the ProShow projects?
Can you export the projects and open them in Premiere Elements and/or Pro?
What is your preferred method of using Proshow with video and Premiere or other video editor?
I know you have been talking about ProShow for years but I haven't been all that interested until now, great stuff :TU:

John,
Glad you ike them. There is a whole ecosystem of "ProShow Developers" who are developing slide styles. Some are simple, while others much more complex. The cool thing is that the end user can apply the styles very easily, but also has total control if they so chose to delve into it.

Chuck,
Here are my answers to your questions:

Chuck Said:
Can you insert video in the ProShow projects?

Yes. You can insert video into ProShow. It has very rudimentary controls, primarily trim. Video is not its strong suit. It does not begin to hold a candle to what Premiere Elements can do. However, you can trim up your clips in Elements and insert into ProShow. It works pretty good. They have also added hardware acceleration to offload some of the preview work to the graphics card. It works pretty well, but some people have some hardware issues.

Chuck Said:
Can you export the projects and open them in Premiere Elements and/or Pro?

Yes. I use ProShow Producer, their upscale version. Producer can output many different output flavors including MPEG2, MP4, and of course DV-AVI. If I have a lot of video and just a few slide sequences, I will output them and integrate into Premiere Elements. However if I have a lot of pictures interspersed with some video, which is what I have normally, then I will trim inside Proshow and move ahead. If there is a pretty even mix, I will tend to output from ProShow and bring into Premiere Elements. That is because of the superior handling of video, coupled with the improved menu creating capability of Premiere.

Chuck Said:
What is your preferred method of using Proshow with video and Premiere or other video editor?

Please see above. To recap if mostly video, then output from ProShow and import into Premiere. If it is mostly pictures with a touch of video, then it is ProShow all the way. If it is fairly even, then I would tend to output from ProShow and use Premiere to bundle up the final package.

Well Photodex has a free trial. It is not time limited, but it puts a banner on your output. This would give you time to learn the tool and see if you like it. After you have created your masterpiece and obtain a license, you will be able to render without the annoying banner on your image.

In summary, a program as complex as Premiere or ProShow will have it's glitches. However, just like Adobe, the Photodex team has been working really hard at stabilizing the product. It is markedly improved from what it was 3 years ago. Give it a go if you have time. There are a lot of great built in effects. Couple that with the artistic capability of people like yourself and the tool really shines. When it comes to creating slideshows with some video, Producer is very tough to beat.

I hope that helps. If you decide to give it a try, you know where to come for help.

Chuck,
Not sure when they went to the 15 day limit. However, Photodex actually has live human beings who will answer technical support questions. If you needed another week or so to test I would just give them a call. When I joined, there was no time limit, just a yellow ProShow banner on your output.

Give it a spin and let me know if I can assist.

BTW, I may be flying through Atlanta soon for work. Maybe I can arrange some time in my flight schedule.

Chuck was in town on Sunday, but since it was Father's day, I let it pass. But depending on how far I get this week, I may be passing back through on Sunday. I could arrange to extend my return. I will find out later in the week as I progress as to what the plans are for next week.

I was at the Greyhound bus depot in downtown Atlanta at 5am on Sunday morning.
Picking up a friend of my daughters who is visiting from Minnesota for a few days.
Just let me know if you decide to come back this way.

Finally had some time to check out the demo of Proshow Producer, I love it !!
There are so many things that I can add quickly and easily, simply amazing.
I am going to do a tutorial on how simple this is to use, especially for people that already understand Premiere Elements :)
There are so many effects and transitions to add that just trying them all is a lot of fun, this is one awesome program.
