DV-AVI play very jittery in WMP and Nero Showtime

Postby hpharley90 » Sat Feb 14, 2009 11:19 am

Hi all.
I'm still having the same problem that I had thought had something to do with temperature that I posted in this thread.
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4530

Not one DV-AVI clip will play in either Windows MovieMaker or Nero Showtime correctly. EDIT: I mean Windows Media Player not Windows MovieMaker.
They all have a shaky or jittery look on all movement and also camera moves. When a persons arm moves in video it will look like many arms or trailing arms.

This was never like this before my first initial post.

It seems to have started around the time I downloaded and installed Advanced System Care 3 that I read about in this post.viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4412&p=38432#p38432

This software changed something (I don't remember what) that I didn't like so I uninstalled. And decided to keep using EasyCleaner.
That was the only software that was installed recently.
And I never noticed anything till I tried to view DV-AVI clips and they all shook.

Anybody have any ideas on a fix? :pull:
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that I use Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 and the DV-AVI clips play fine in the Media Center player. :-k
Thanks
Richard

Maybe your codecs got screwed up somehow Richard.
Do you have Gspot so you can see what codec is used to view the clips?

I've got G-Spot.
I'll see if I can figure out how to use it.
Thanks
Richard

Well if I understand correctly I opened a DV-AVI clip in G-Spot.
It did it's thing and said Codecs are Installed. "dvsd"

Was that correct?
What next?
Thanks
Richard

That is correct, same as mine anyway.

What happens when you play the file in Widows Media Player or Quicktime?
Do you have any older files you can test, maybe this is a problem with new files only?

Trying to find something that might give us a clue as to what is going on ::C

It probably is, but just to tie up a possible loose end, does GSpot indicate that it's interlaced and Bottom Field First?

My mistake. I meant Windows Media Player and not Windows MovieMaker in my initial post.

Will not play in Windows Media Player or Nero Showtime.. But they play in Quicktime.

I will check that now Bob.
Thanks

I have a clip from January 2007 and it plays the same as one that was just captured a week or so ago.
Very shaky.
I have aspect ratio of 4:3 and 16:9 and it doesn't matter.
Thanks
Richard

How has overall computer response been?? I was wondering if your hard drive is set to DMA or if it had switched to PIO under Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Primary and Secondary Channel, Properities, Advanced Settings.

Computer response seems the same. Nothing that I noticed. Yesterday I installed the Wax plug in and was just getting familiar with it and tried to use the bouncing ball transition. I never got it to work because PE2.0 froze up on me. First time.
I stopped using the Wax plug in till I watch more tutorials on it.

Other than that everything seems fine. As far as Devise Manager setting here is screen shot.

I just tried everything again and DV-AVI still will not play without jitters in Windows Media Player and Nero Show time and also Media player classic.
It will play in my Windows XP Media Center player and Quicktime.
I never use Quicktime as a regular player. I always use WMP. What I did notice with Quicktime is that its quality wasn't as good as WMP.
Is that normal?

Like I said I never used Quicktime for viewing so I don't know how quality was when WMP and Nero Showtime were working.
I never liked Quicktime so I always use WMP.

My editing software is working fine. No problems there. ](*,)
Thanks
Richard

You may want to try installing the latest version of DirectX, just in case the DVCodec is broken.
In WMP you can look at the properties of the clip to see what codecs are being used to play the video and audio (you could also use GraphEdit). Right-click on the clip in the WMP playlist which is on the right hand side, and then select Properties from the pop-up menu. That will show you what DirectShow codec is being used. It should say DV Video Decoder.

I downloaded and ran the installation wizard for the latest DirectX. Version 9.25.1476
Date published 12/5/2008. It didn't help. Still very jittery.
Here is a screen shot of WMP properties menu.

That's is what I was hoping the properties page would look like.

Have you changed any display settings, such as turning off "write combining" or using the Troubleshoot slider in the advanced display settings to turn off certain features?

Is your graphics card giving out?

Can you run "DXDiag" and pass all the tests? Just type DXDiag from Start > Run and press enter, then go through the tabs and perform the tests..
