Have you changed any display settings, such as turning off "write combining" or using the Troubleshoot slider in the advanced display settings to turn off certain features?

Is your graphics card giving out?

Can you run "DXDiag" and pass all the tests? Just type DXDiag from Start > Run and press enter, then go through the tabs and perform the tests..

RJ it's too early for me right now. I'll check when I get home from work.
Thanks
Richard

RJ, I adjusted the Hardware acceleration slider from full to where it is in screen shot.
Most of the jitters went away but the quality got worse also.
Does that mean anything?

I didn't have to go that low. I adjusted the slider to the middle one where you disable directdraw and direct3d. Doing that after installing the latest version of DirectX fixed a few issues for me. I know playback doesn't look good, but it doesn't seem to affect the quality of the final product.

Something has changed recently for me as well and I think it has to do with some updates from Microsoft. I had to uninstall WMP 11 and go back to WMP 9. I can't figure out how to fix it. Some of my other programs broke.

I guess I didn't mention that maybe you can try uninstalling WMP 11 and rolling back to WMP 9 and see if things are better. Then update again to WmP 11. I did that several times yesterday but am stuck back on WMP 9 for now.

I thought of that also but I'm getting same jitters from Nero Showtime also.
Also I'm wondering why DV-AVI play fine in my Windows XP Media center player.

I'll try rolling back and see how I make out.

I think I still had jitters at that setting but I'll double check that also.

I will keep you posted.
Thanks for helping out.

RJ at this setting no jitters but as you know poor quality.
The next setting above(Disable all cursor) I get jitters.
I'll roll back now to WMP 9.

I put hardware acceleration up where it used to be and I tried what I just read.

I unchecked "use overlays". Better, but no cigar.
Thanks

Do you have Jet Audio installed? That installs some video codecs, which caused me problems.

Nope. I never heard of it.
I didn't roll back to WMP 9 yet. I don't get much time during the work week.
Thanks

Download the DirectX SDK Summer 2004 from Microsoft, but DO NOT install it.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

You need Winzip or similar utility to extract the files to a folder. As I said before, do not install it buy running the exe. I say this because I don't know what would get installed, and we are only interested in the GraphEdt utility.

Look in the Utilities folder and you will see a program named GraphEdt.exe.

After running Graphedt.exe, select File > Render Media File, and then select a DV-AVI file that's been giving you trouble in WMP. Find out what splitter is being used, such as Nero Splitter. I'm thinking that maybe another video application is causing problems. You can also play the graph by clicking the green Play button. How does it play back?

You can do something similar with GSpot. After opening the DV-AVI file, you can click the "1" button under the Ms/AV column in the Proposed Codec Solutions section to build the graph.

I prefer GraphEdt for this because you get a full size preview monitor, and you can right-click on the graph elements and get more detailed information sometimes.

Lousy. Just like WMP. Trails or jitters with all movements.

Ever thought of just formatting the drive and starting over?
That is a drastic solution I know but have done it myself on ocassion.
A fresh new install of everything somehow fixes more than you can imagine :)
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.

For what is wrong, to me that is like knocking down a house to build a new one to fix a leaky faucet.
You must have an idea as to what we all have installed on our computers as far as all the software plus everything else.

What bothers me is that DV-AVI always played on WMP, Nero and Windows XP Media Center player.
Now only the Windows XP Media Center Edition player will play them.
To me it doesn't make sense.
Thanks
Richard

I don't understand what's going on. Before I reformatted my drive, I would -- and I have -- go through the Add/Remove programs and uninstall applications such as Nero and codec packs one at a time where video codecs get installed, and reboot after uninstalling each one, and try playing back after each one. You might get lucky.

Did you run a registry cleaner already?
