Vista has zip support built-in. When you changed the default program, you changed your ".zip" file association and lost the link to the default actions. To restore the default zip association you can do this:

Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories.
Locate the "Command Prompt" entry under accessories and right-click it. Choose Run as administrator.
Reply "yes" when asked if you are sure that you want to open the command prompt as an administrator.
When the command prompt comes up, type:

assoc .zip=CompressedFolder

and then press Enter.

It's assoc .zip=CompressedFolder with the space.

After you press enter, you should be able to go into explorer and open your zip files with a double click. Right clicking on a zip file should show the standard options for zip. Did you try looking at a zip file afterwards?

I tried it like you said and nothing happened.

I did do the following:
Click the start button ... select "Default Programs" ... select "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program" ...

Select the file extension.zip. Then click the "Change Program" button.

In the "Open with" window that opens select the "browse" button.

Select "Computer" and then your "c" drive and then the "windows" folder

Now, finally select "Explorer".

I am now able to click on the folder (which now as a rather annoying computer icon on the folder) and see the contents of the folder. I also now have an option at the top to extract the files. I still do not get the option to unzip files with a right click, but at least I can now view the contents. Thats were I'm at now.

I have Vista

Righ clicking does not give an unzip option.

YOu need to double click on the zip file. The files in the zip qill show up.

Then at the top of explorer, click the 'extract all files' button.
