Thank you. I tried Windows Media Encoder on the laptop. Unfortunately, the machine froze. However, now I see that the desktop no longer plays the video for mpeg files! That means that there was a change that affected both computers. My first guess? Real Player#11. I hate to be accusatory but it does point to that. I am aware that Real Player can alter certain settings. I ran into these issues a few months ago in matters dealing with PowerPoint.

My temporary solution is to create a wmv file with PE2, then bring that file down to size with WMM. By the way, I know that the problem is not that I created the mpeg file with PE. I tried playing an older mpeg file and that did not work.

Thank you again.

Personally I really don't like RealPlayer at all, haven't had it on any of my computers for years now.
It use to cause more problems than it does now but I still think it is one of those things that you just can't trust.
1. Thinkpad W530 Laptop, Core i7-3820QM Processor 8M Cache 3.70 GHz, 16 GB DDR3, NVIDIA Quadro K1000M 2GB Memory.

2. Cybertron PC - Liquid Cooled AMD FX6300, 6 cores, 3.50ghz - 32GB DDR3 - MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 4G, 4GB Video Ram, 1024 Cuda Cores.
