Talk about computer software/hardware problems, related to digital video or otherwise.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of why my screen saver has decided to stop working. I have it set up in the properties panel to do a My Picture Show, which basically goes out to the My Pictures folder and displays those. It is set up to kick in after 10 minutes of inactivity. The last couple of days I have come back to my computer to find that it hasn't started the screen saver. I've rebooted the machine and still no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I should look into to correct this?

Could it be background processes that are running? Try putting up task manager and see what may be using the CPU.
I have found that the Windows AutoUpdate tool is sometimes the culprit.
Also, have you tried the preview button to test the screen saver?

Preview button works. The process using about 95-98% CPU is System Idle Process.
But interestingly I did see the Windows update icon in the lower right icon tray when I booted up this evening, but it seems to have completed its update. Maybe if I try rebooting again, it will kick back in.

Thanks Chuck. I went through MSConfig and worked through looking at all the start up processes. I turned off ones I thought (by googling) weren't necessary. So far this seems to have done the trick. Thanks!
